I'm thinking on modding an old remington pl5, and using it to mill with.
After all, it's collecting dust and always had a good deal of torque,
for it's size. Any suggestions on porting, etc., could be helpful.
 
Short of doing cylinder porting work, it's pretty much good to go as is. Those were pre-EPA saws, so the mufflers are already pretty free-flowing. That said, it's probably not the best milling saw out there, if only because of age and parts availability. Milling is pretty hard on saws, so I'd think that parts availability would be a concern that might weigh in favor of using a more modern saw instead.

Let me know if you're looking to part with it, though, I've been looking for a running PL-5 for a while.
