    MS361 Bar and chains

I was wondering if you could steer me to a bar and chain, or a combo to fit a MS361. I am looking for 18" and 20"

3/8 (.375) .50 guage. Thank you for your help and support on this site. John

Well, a Stihl ES is OK. A GB Pro Top (or Titanium) bar is even better. In any bar, get a solid one. Laminated bars are not as good. I would opt for the 20 inch bar, better fit in my view for the 361. I have 16, 18, 20 and 25 inch bars all in 3/8. Some ar GB, some are Stihl ES and E bars.

I would get full comp chains (no skip) in either size. I use Stihl chains, as I think they are the best out there (they keep an edge longer than Oregon or Carlton). For cutting chains, the type depends on the cuts you are doing. Get non-safety yellow chains. Safety chin is slower in cutting. I use mostly RM for all-around dirty wood conditions, RS for clean bucking. I akso have RM2, RSC and RMF chains for different cutting conditions.

Why would you want an 18" and a 20"? Doesn't seem like much of a difference.

    Howdy,
We don't have any more of the closeout bar and chain combos for your model left. I would suggest The Oregon Powermatch bars:

    or
    http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdet...20+SS50&catID=

Most people like our Woodsman Pro Chain (manufactured by Carlton):

    or

Thanks for the info Grande Dog. Are the links above still good for what I want considering the two Dl Sawtroll was talking about? Now I'm a little confused. I'm trying to line these items up for a friend's saws.
I agree, a 20" and 18" don't make sense. He is using a 24" that came with the saw, but he really doesn't need that long bar for what he's doing. (He just don't know it)
I'm trying to set him up with a 18" Bar and chain.
    He also has a MS200t with a 16" chain. (I'd rather see a
14") but it's not my saw.
Thanks Sawtroll for your input, I always enjoy reading your post and the input you have here! (say hi to witchy)

Thank you for the nice words!

Grande Dog has corrected the link I "spoke" about - so the links add up now.

The reason for the mixup probably was that the Stihl mount 18" bars call for 66dl, while Husky ones call for 68dl. Some standard bars for some other brands call for only 64dl, and are 17" bars in reality.....

Never order a chain only by "called" bar length, specify the dl count as well!
