    Starter Assembly

    Grande Dog,
    I am looking for a starter assembly for an 030 Stihl. Mine is skipping sometimes. Wanted to know price and avail. Thanks

    Howdy,
    I don't show the starter as being available as a complete unit any more. It looks like some individual parts are available. A real common problem when it comes to slippage is the starter pawl on the flywheel. They are spring loaded, so when the flywheel is stopped they engage the the starter pulley. As soon as the saw starts, centrifugal force causes them to disengage. The pawl will get dirty or corroded and not move freely. Put a little WD on the pawls and see if they loosen up.

    Thanks for your quick reply. I had it apart awhile ago and it seems to me that the plastic pawls or teeth on the recoil were bad or something was cracked. I will tear it back down and see what I need and then have you check on the parts for me. Thanks again
