Well, there's a lot more to my story but it doesn't need to be told here. In general, I think UPS and FedEx do a reasonably good job. It was definitely this driver that was a problem, because I spoke to other drivers about him and other route customers as well. It's pretty bad when your neighbors stop you at the mailbox to complain about the UPS guy.

Also - the box wasn't marked Fragile at all, and it was well packed. It was simply thrown out of the truck into the snowbank. How do I know? No footprints in the snow.

The 8 pm time isn't a complaint - it impresses me that the guy's still out doing his job. I would not be surprised if a dozen or two packages at the end of a route got brought back to the terminal for "failed delivery".

A guy I know who owns a sawmill, got UPS once a week unless he paid for daily pickup. His driver (not my driver, praise the Lord) said he's required to deliver regular ground packages within a week after they hit his truck, so he did the rural parts of his route one day a week.
If an important part for your broken mill hits his truck the day after your delivery day, you get to wait six days. You can't even pick it up at the terminal, because it's on the truck. Mr. Sawmill was pretty hot and bothered over that one, let me tell you. I would have hit the terminal at 5:59pm and demanded they pull my package off the truck. I'm sure THAT driver was done with his route by then.

A little update. I got word Wed. that Partstree.com started a package trace for my AWOL parts. Then last night, just as my head hit the pillow, UPS called and talked at me. They ran thru my story again, verified my address and all that. Finally, he said that all further follow-ups would be thru Partstree. I'm taking this to mean that they'll covering the loss. Some good news, at least.

The shipper has to be in charge of working with UPS.

I hope it wasn't over $100, or if it was, you'd better hope the shipper paid for a higher Declared Value. If not, either you or the shipper is going to get screwed. We lost almost $300 not too long ago because of UPS screwing up delivery.

Another update. Got a slip stuck to the front door Monday saying UPS was trying to deliver a Husqvarna package. I suspected it was the tracer. They said they would try to deliver the next day, but of course they never showed. Later, last night UPS called me again to ask if any followed up with me on the claim. I told her the above. Why do they call so late--8:30pm....

Well, this morning Partstree.com fired me an e-mail saying that UPS issued a claim number and that they were reordering all my parts.

I hope this never happens again. For my part, I'm cleaning up the driveway a bit to make it more friendly to big trucks. If I can catch my driver one day, I'll try to make arrangements with him to get ahold of me if he has a delivery. And, if I have a choice, I'll send stuff to my brother's and save the hassle.

Another Reason To Not Use UPS

I recently had to send a pistol back to Ruger for some work and the lady on the phone specifically told me to always ship Fed-Ex, and not UPS. She went on to explain that UPS has a lot of internal theft issues and to shy away from them at all cost!

Are UPS guy sucks too. We had some nuflor sent for some sick calves in january. He tied it to the open gate at our driveway. It froze and was no good. I was off and we didn't go down the drive. It is 1/4 long but thats no excuse. He was real rude to my pregant wife once too. Well we got some stuff when I was laid off for a week when i awnsered the door and asked if he was the same guy that got smart with my wife he said "No it wasn't me" Well I guess being 6'2" Weighing 325 is good sometimes. My wife said he has been the nicest guy ever since that day.

My UPS guys are pretty good. I have had a claim against UPS last year as they broke a post drill in transit, but they did eventually take care of it. They were really slow to pay, but did after several months.

It is good to have a good relationship with them, if you receive packages from them. Just like anything in life...

    Regards,
    Alan

PS - I wouldn't be upset over one bad delivery, as a whole UPS is pretty darn good, IMO.

Any job is as good as the person doing it. There can be bad apples in any company.

I know package handlers are worked like dogs! There may be resentment towards the company released by rough handling packages.

I have too heard that "FRAGILE" means a drop test is in order!

I've tied some pkgs to a gate wrapped in a bag...reason was, the "Beware of Dog" sign on a fence that runs out to the sidewalk, in the front yard. Sorry to make the guy walk to the fence but honestly the house doesn't need a fence like that....if you could see it I think you would understand.

I'll blow the horn but I won't go the house, not worth it. I understand peeps need some security but I haven't heard anything about it so I guess he doesn't mind.

I found a box on the seat of our grain truck a ways away from home. What a surprise that was. I guess the name on the truck door was good enough. It goes back many years as I think it came from Lambert.
