    Marks for pulp wood?

Sorry no pics, the digital camera has decided to fuzz out. But my question is: On my 2156 there are measurement marks of 5, 10, 12, and 14 on the clutch cover. My understanding is this has something to do with cutting pulp wood? Just wondering if anyone could clarify for me.

    Thanks

Don't know about marks on saw.I cut pulp wood that went to a paper company in Wis. for 6 years back in the early 80's and I used an 8' peice from a small sapling. All the wood I cut was 8' long and hand piled for the boss to pick up with his skidder and brought to the landing for the trucks from the paper company to pick up.

These marks are cast in right below the gunning sight(on the lower edge), begining with 5 at the rear (handle end) of the clutch cover and ending at 14 at the front (bar end)

I just went out to the shop and measured between the marks, and it seems that it is centimetres from the back of the clutch cover But it would be nice to know their purpose.
I have a funny feeling that Sawtroll would know the answer.

My guess would be that it's for measuring for firewood length????

Bar measurement + however many cm to make it the proper length... I use my chainsaw bar as a measuring stick for firewood all the time. If I'm running say a 16" bar on my 260 I know about where in the clutch cover to mentally mark the log for the next cut to make it 20". Just put the bar tip at the end of the log and pick a spot on the log to make your next cut. It ain't real percise but it will keep the woodpile furly straight.

Just because you can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done.

In need of a Dolmar 166 muffler... shoot me a PM if you can help.

This has me bugged too I looked in my owners manual as well.
Since I am a avid Fisherman I am great at just eyeballing my wood, I cut to 16'' for the House(wood stove) and 20'' for the shop and the Fireplace in the front room. Yep that's putting the tape on them after I cut them.

Wile cutting them I could swear they were 20'' and 28''

I am sure the Troll will know what they mean, we just have to wait for him to reply.
Through some bait out by asking him how much your 2156 weighs full of oil and fuel or that the Strait handle is much nicer than the angled one on the 357/359. Just joking

Can't help with the marks on the saw but if you use this on the handle http://cutterschoice.com/products/47032.jpg
you set it at 4ft from the tip of your bar to the tip if the rod and you'll never look for lost measuring tape in the woods again .

Pulp wood is anything less than 28" that is not grade around here.

buck it 21 feet and away it goes.

I believe those marks are for measuring the length needed while bucking.
