I just picked up a nice poulan pro 255, I believe it's actually a partner or husky saw. It runs good but I looked at the piston and it's in marginal shape. I want to replace it before it messes the cylinder up. Does anyone know what the specs are to this saw? I heard it is a 40cc saw, so does anyone know the bore and stroke and will a husky piston fit?

Can We have a picture of what your talking about?

It fires right up...piston does have some scratches....but considering how good it runs I'm assuming the cylinder should be in good shape. The only compression tester I have is for diesel engines. The gauge is calibrated and super accurate, but I need to get it retrofitted for spark plugs. The engine feels strong...it doesn't drop when you hold onto the starter handle.

Then i don't think you need a new piston. They can have some visible line's but not scoring. if it runs and looks good it probably is. I wouldn't worry about it or put to much $$ into it.

Yes thet are a 40cc.
They are a pretty nice little saw and worth hanging on to.
If you would post a few pics of the piston the mechanics around here will be happy to give their opinions.

I'm not sure about the bore and stroke.
One of our sponsors should be able to get you a piston if you need one.

I've decided I want to replace the piston...I'm sure I can use it as is, but I don't want to. Does anyone know the bore, stroke, piston pin diameter, deck height. Since poulan didn't make the saw there must be a sister saw for this model.

Its not worth it but if you must... idk where you can get a piston. I use those saws as boat anchors...

Well, if you use a 255 pro as a boat anchor than you either have unrealistically high standards for a chainsaw or your loaded $$, you may have what's called "having more dollars than sense":jawdrop: I compared the 255 to a husky 36 and they look very similiar..plus the 255 uses the husky air injection setup, same EMI manufactured plastic parts, same chain brake...it looks like the handle would actually fit a husky.

I think it's more husky than poulan. If it looks like a husky, has the same parts as a husky, runs like a husky, chances are it's a husky.

That saw is the little brother to the Poulan Pro 295 which is 46cc if I remember right. It's got a chrome bore so its a little better then the green ones.

There not a bad little saw for the investment, some of the earlier oilers were not too good but the later replacements seem to hold up much better. I have no experiance with the 255 but have messed with some friends 295 and after a muffler mod and a carb tune they really run much better.

From you description, I'm not convinced that you need a new piston and rings, but if you have your heart set on it, you can just walk into any dealer that can order Poulan parts and order part # 530069454 for the piston kit at a price of $35.88.

If you don't have the splined carb screwdriver you might as well pick one up then also so you can fine tune the carb after you put it all back together.

Or the husky 36 is an orange poulan, made at the Poulan plant in La.

No matter, a working saw is a tool. The Poulans have good prices on their
replacement parts, well worth some investing.

Anyone with a Homelite 150 in their sig needn't say ANYTHING about someone elses boat anchor.
A PP255 will run circles around that one.

.

LOL, i don't use it. Someone gave it to me for helping him set up his boat. Its my loner.. only one ill give out.

If you like ill bring it and a camera on my boat and throw it overboard?

The poulan will be right behind it.
