    Need help with ms660 carb I.D. with pictures

    Ok I picked up a basket case ms660 a couple weeks ago and im now getting all the parts to make it a running unit. But the carb I recieved with the rest of the saw is what you see in the pictures. But my air filter base plate has that dime sized oval above the carb for the newer style carbs with that air suction compensator thing. Im not sure what carb I have here or what it goes to. There are three fittings, one black plastic on the side that goes to the fuel tank. the other 2 fittings are aluminum or steel and are on the top and bottom side and i dont know what goes to wht.

    Initially I thought that was 394 carb but now I think it might be for a Partner cut-off saw. It's definitely been monkey-ed with.

    yeah for sure! i think i can safely say its not stock.... but it looks like i could make it work, I just dont know what the two metal fittings go to. one is the vaccum impulse but i cant for the life of me think of what the other would lead to.

    on the carb it says walbro, wj85b or wj858, under that it says 309

    that the wj85 is for the 980 TTA, not knowing what that was a quick google search came up with Efco concrete saw, 980TTA.

    Efco cut-of saw, that sounds about right. It's going to be a lot of work making that thing go in an 066/660. I think you should just find a good used 660 carb and save yourself the headache.

    You're missing the cover for the governor too, so that thing is junk.

    ok, I just bought another box of parts for my saw to complete it. Now with this carb, if its a slightly larger diameter I wouldnt mind tinkering with it to get it to work. What is the governer cover your talking about, other than it missing the high needle, i dont see where anything else was at on it. also, what is that other fitting for and which one is the impulse line side...

    Above the choke shaft in picture #2, is a large hole. There's a brass cap that goes in that hole. You'll need to fix it in place with clear fingernail polish or Loctite.

    The impulse fitting is the metal fitting on the fuel pump cover, which is the aluminum cover with the two small holes in it. The fuel pump diaphragm works off impulses from the engine. The fuel inlet is the black plastic nipple on the side.

    The fitting on top of the steel metering diaphragm cover is a vent that stays protected from concrete and stone dust. These usually have a rubber hose that goes to an innocuous place in the crankcase. These helps keep debris out of the metering chamber.

    I doubt the bore and venturi on this carb are any larger than that of the WJ carb for the 660, since the cut-off saws are designed to make their power at a much lower RPM.

    The important thing now is that you have the actual carburetor you need to get your 660 running?

    This carb would be good to hang onto and play with. You'd learn a lot about modern small engine carbs in the process.
