    Homelite info sought

Seasons greetings ! I have acquired a 955 Homelite saw that I'd like to get going. I am unfamiliar with large Homelite saws and saws made for the logging industry. I grew up with Homelite Xl 12's. I am looking for parts soruces for a machine like this and would like to know what length bar these came with. I'd like to have an NOS bar. Just out of curiousity, what was the largest (cc) one man Homelite saw ever made? If anyone has anything to sell related to a saw like this, please email me.

Here are a couple of sources for Homelite parts:

    Contact Lindle at

I believe the king of the Homelite saws is the 1050 series at 7.0 cu inch/ 115 cc s.

    Your 955 is a 5.0 cu inch/ 82 cc saw.

Good luck with the rebuild project!

the 955 is the (more recent) vibration isolated version of the classic 925 which is a great cutting machine and will outperform most of today's environmentally-friendly saws and has trememdous low-end torque for the toughest of continuous cutting. Earlier this yr., I rebuild two 925 saws, replacing all worn parts including all seals, gaskets, rings, crank bearings, carb kits, etc. Both run like new.

They responded well to the complete removal the baffle plate in the mufflers and became noticably stronger.

    all parts are available from:

Sisler Sales and Service in Dubuque, Iowa @ 563-582-8551

Hawkin Bros. in Shelbina, Missouri @ 573-588-4731

    good luck.

Was the 3100G any bigger or did it just use the 2100 motor with a gear-drive frame? There's been a few on e-bay recently.

The largest Homelite was one of the older models, like the 8-26 or something. Most powerful was the 2100S, along with the 3100G that I believe is the same but with a gearbox.

I have an SXL-925 in near mint condition. I love it. Powerful high-compression monster.

They pop up on eBay frquently.

Huskyman, I am not positive but believe the 880, 8800, and 540 were almost the same saw. It was a Solo design/manufacture and a real good saw. It did come out right before Homey went belly up. The displacement was about 5.4 cubic inches or 88 ccs.
BTW here is a picture of a never used Homelite bar. It is a little shop worn but most of the original paint is visible. It is 44" so will take a big saw to use it. Homey addicts E-mail me if you want to buy it. Mike

The Largest one man Homelite I know of is the 7-29 and 8-29, made in the late 50's earl 60's, model after the 5-30. At 7.88 Cu in., they had three piston rings and a rotory valve intake. The 955 would have been sold with up to a 31" bar, altough able to handle a 36" bar okay. Oh and the 3100g is a gear drive version of the 2100. Good Luck, Jonathan

It's standard practice to start a thread of your own instead of posting an unrelated question in an existing one. Folks who don't have a Homelite interest may skip this entirely.

    John,

Thank you for your reply and your advice. Let me apologize to you and all of you Homelite talkers now, I am very sorry please forgive me.
I am not familiar with thread protocol, and not that familiar with the site. (first time in my life I've been on a thread) The thread is a little complicated for me to use since I only have one good eye. Sorry I asked for a little help. Slap me If I butt in on your and others conversation. It won't happen again.

    Regards
    Richard Wood
