After reading through most of this http://blizzard.rwic.und.edu/~nordli.../gasoline.html it looks like the additive package is just as important as the refining process. I ran a couple of gallons of Sunoco 110 in my saws, they seemed to run OK, I definitely had some idling issues even after adjusting the carb. I didn't notices any change in power one way or the other. I stopped running it do to cost, and I didn't like the smell, or the lead coating it left in the engine. It did seem to burn clean otherwise. This stuff looks ideal for chainsaws. http://www.sunocoinc.com/Site/Consum...dFuels/RMR.htm
Yes the fuel we have here in Cincinnati doesn't last long at all, after a few weeks it starts to smell bad, and in the hot humid weather I'm always concerned about the alcohol and moisture.

That fuel's oxygenated, which I believe means contains alcohol. Sunoco 260 GTX is not. LINK

Have a 201T that doesn't run like you expected? Need a new one that's already modded and ready to go? PM me for details.
Both of these look good for making more power, but not concerned about storage. Sunoco 260 GT and Sunoco MO2X. The MO2X even talks about the need to burn fast in small high revving engines and provide fast throttle response. Here's a link to help find Sunoco 260 GT 100 by state, LINK.

I talked to a VP guy out in OK this afternoon. His name was Dan Wall, a very helpful guy. Here's what I learned from him.
U4.2 would make more power than the other fuels. However, it's not a long term storage fuel. Just like carbonated pop, it will loose it's kick after perhaps 6 months. The most stable long term fuel they sell is the SAF94. It was designed for users like firefighters, that have a saw they need to start reliable, even after long periods of inactivity.
SAF94 - $68.15
Motorsport 100/Streetblaze 100 - $65.15
U4.2 - $75.25
He said MotorSport 100 and Streetblaze 100 are the same fuel.
He also confirmed that 100LL is designed for low ambient temps and low RPMs, like 2,500. In no way is it an ideal fuel for chainsaw application. It may work and it may store longer, but that's where it stops.

I like what they said about the RMR the best, I don't know how, but didn't see that it was oxygenated. Your right it may not have the best shelf life.

If I had my choice I'd be running ->THIS<- stuff but I can't get it local and it would be about $11.00 a gallon for me to have it trucked in by the barrel from the distributor. No thanks, for between $2.50 and $5.00 a gallon (running around $4.00 right now for some reason) I think I'll stick with the AV thats available most anywhere, and my insurance man doesn't have to freak out over the "bulk Fuel" storage.

I wasn't Poo Pooing your link eyolf, like I said it’s a very good resource, just a lot of info to wade through. There are other sites out there that can give you the quick and dirty basics in a couple of paragraphs for those of us who are attention deficient.![]()
In answer to the second part of your question... not much. Most saws are designed to run on 87-89 octane.... and they do.... quite well in fact.
I now make my living replacing swollen gummie fuel lines, rebuilding lean sized saws, and rebuilding gummed up carbs with rock hard diaphrams..... I LOOOOVE ethanol.
