    Joining the long bar club

There has been a 36" cannon superbar at my dealer for the last 4 or 5 years. I always thought it was cool but never had a saw to pull something that long until this past spring when I got my 395xp. So the other day I took a little closer look at the bar. It is a stihl mount so I will need to get adapters, but it is .058 gauge, 3/8 pitch so it will work on the 395. Last time I was looking at the bar my dealer told me he would let it go for $100, so this time I offered him $90 and took it home. I bought a oregon 73jg chain to go on it, but I think I got the wrong d/l count. I got 122 and the cannon site shows it is a 123 d/l bar, shouldnt be a big deal to add a link though. Anyway heres a couple of pics.

That is a nice Cannon bar, too bad its a Stihl mount, that would fit my saws better but it can be adapted. Now if it was twice as long, that would be a long bar, sort of like this one.

Do you have to buy an adapter or can you build one. I like the setup.

i thought about making an adapter to run the stihl bar on the 372. i decided it was worth it to just buy the adapter for the 4 or 5 bucks it cost ad bolt it on.

the bar still needs modded to work. youl have to grind the slot longer on the front

had to grind the side of the slot longer towards where the specs are stamped on the bar not towards the yellow dots.

if the cannon slot is longer then stihl bar you might not have to mod but you might be able to grind alittle out if the 122dl chain doesnt want to spool around it.

Thanks for the info Evan. I know I will have to get an adapter and a new oil hole will have to be drilled, but I didnt know about grinding the bar slot. EHP is local to me so I think he can help me out on making this bar fit. I was really looking at a Oregon 28" bar but the price was right on this one so I thought what the heck, I get into some big (40"+) fencerow trees so the added length will just make my job a little easier.

Pioneerguy600 that is one badass looking bar/saw combo. This cannon is made for the big Stihls, it is the S2 mount here http://www.cannonbar.com/images/clie...rbarMounts.pdf

Thanks, I think I am going to get an adapter made, and drill new oil holes. I figure if it costs me a bit I will still be further ahead than if I bought a new 28" Oregon bar (around $130).

I tend to think this will not work due to the width of the large mount bar. I compared my spare Cannon large mount and standard Stihl bars to a Cannon husky mount bar. The oil holes on the Husky were very narrow vs. the large Stihl. The oil holes may be into the solid part of the large Stihl bar.

If you can get it to work I have a 50" large Stihl mount GB hard nose bar in .058 gauge you can have for way cheap.

I wonder if you could make the Bailey's adapter work somehow, maybe TIG weld some shims on the outer edges...

Well if you do have to sell it you can tell the (American) customer it can be ground out to .063 for a minimal cost. Not alot of .058 down here.
