    Need some Dolmar advise.

I go today to put the purchase on a Dolmar 5100. Get there and see the shiny 5105. $40 difference in the two. Guy says the 5105 is same saw just 2010. Said well if its the same it should be the same price, got a good laugh from him. Anyway question is the 5105 worth $40 more? I had him switch the bar over to a 20" 325 .058, not sure if that was the right decision or not. Thought I would buy a 18" 3/8 bar for an option.

Make me feel good about the Dolmar, Please!!!!!!!!!!

    Wink

A 16" bar sure would be better, if you want a fast saw.

If .325, don't accept the the 34SL chain that Dolmar offer (with their own designation), insist on 21LP - it is a much better chain!

I suspect the 5105 gained a tad of weight, even though the specs doesn't reflect it - but if it is easy to remove the cat in the muffler, I would take that one. There are changes that aren't obviously related to EPA.

    Thumbs up

The 5105 has a mod. that gets a bit more air flow to cool the cylinder.
I went with 18"/.375 but there's at least one member here that really likes the 20"/.325
    Lots of 16" fans here.

It's in reference to his late wife, not the saw. The saw was hers.

Yes, but the "Dolmar" chain all are pretty lame (= bad) "safety" chain....

Oregon makes much better chain than that, some of them are state of the art!

I went with the PS5100SH instead of the 5105.I got the 18" with .325.I tossed the stock chain(have it somewhere) and went with the Oregon 20LPX.Any thoughts on this chain?I have not cut with it yet I put on my 16" bar with 3/8 30RC for a try.

heres my thoughts on the 5105. this was the first saw i ever owned ran great with a 20" 3/8's but here's my gripe.. the air filtration is BS!! i'm not joking after only 10 minutes of cutting i could take the air filter off and there would be a fair amount of dust in the intake and along the inside of the air filter. to me that's not cool. i went round and round with my dealer about this, even tried a new filter. no luck. so we struck a deal and i traded my 1 month old 5105 for a 6400 and put an HD air filter and no problems! i love it. it's a bit more heavy than the 5105 but that's alright i don't make a living with a saw. i live in NM which is dry perhaps in a more humid climate the air filter problem doesnt exist?
