    blue max chainsaws @ atwoods

i was in atwoods today looking for a roll-pin and i just happened to stroll by their chainsaw displays.

good news for the "homeowner crowd" atwoods has the blue max chainsaw for sale-in stock for $139.

you no longer have to buy those famous blue max saws over the internet!

they also have the home-lite 38cc saw for $78! what a plastic wonder!(same saw they were selling last Christmas for $59 i think?

and the usual box store poulans, and box store huskys.

the blue max didn't look so bad out of the box--i may have to warm up the old credit card! with the 25 to 1 mix it can also double for a mosquito fogger!
chainsaw #1 044 stihl with 52mm 046 jug and meteor piston, chainsaw#2 044 stihl with OEM 046 jug and piston, chiansaw #3 very mint shindaiwa 575.

NEW to me SAW MS-440. mostly stock except for an older big bore muffler and 24" full comp chain--she makes the chips fly!

I think the guy that gave it to me said it was a 36 inch saw.
I have know way to know. It looks like the blade part sticks out about 18.5" past the yellow part

has anyone tried those blue max saws? I have seen them and they appear on the outside to be a cheap husky/poulan clone. Not sure if they are any better than a wild thing though

Our local Menards store had them for $99 and did not sell them. The next time that I saw them, the price had gone to $110 and they still have them. If they are worth a crap, that is still a bargain to be sure.

I need to buy one and keep it as a loaner. That way they'll never ask to borrow a saw again.

Third hand info about the blue saws (FWIW): B-I-L knows someone who bought one, used it to cut a pickup load of firewood.

Ran OK, but hard to start the next time. Saw runs until out of gas, then won't start. No compression.

Flash chromed cylinder losing plating and saw hadn't even finished using up the first gallon of mix. Owner took it back, traded it for a shop vac, and bought a used McC Timber bear at a junk shop. That saw had problems too, but I gave the B-I-L an old Mac 610 to give the kid for parts; he made 16 cords without trouble this fall!

Are'nt they a Redmax 5000 clone? I wounder if a 5000 cylinder would work on one? Of course it would be a waste of a good cylinder.

yea--thats what i heard about the blue-max--quality through and through!

i don't think the word clone is correct. more like reasonable fax/faux/copy of a real saw would be a better description. on the bright side the blue max might make a good hollywood prop saw!

i am sure we will see somebody post " i bought a blue max last year cut 10 face ricks with it. i must have a PRO saw!" LOL!

I know someone that needs a bar for the infamous blue max. Since the obviously weren't designed to last longer than the bar he can find no info on the bar mount pattern. Does anyone know what bar mount will fit the POS?

The 45cc Bluemax made in China looks just like a copy of the Redmax 4500 at Menard's.
