I have a customer who runs his 025 with no muffler. It works for him but I would not do it. The muffler acts as a filter of sorts to keep debris out of the cylinder. Also keeps the saw from setting the woods on fire. I had a Maico dirtbike that scored a piston from an exhaust leak. Open exhaust can't be good.
Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?
I know some here will complain that many mufflers are too restrictive but the thing is a 2 cycle needs some backpressure from a properly functioning exhaust system to produce maximum power.
Also as already stated a lose or missing muffler allows dirt entry and when shut off, cold air directly on the piston and rings, warpage can ocurr.
So There!
Open it up a little while it's off and then put it back on.![]()
How you do anything, is how you do everything.
A neighbor ruined his saw after the muffler fell off and continued cutting. How can you stand the noise?
