I have been using the FILs ranger and it WOULD NOT START until I modded the muffler. It would putter and die, putter and die....so the muff got modded and it runs like a top.![]()

Can you squirt a little mix in the cylinder and see if it will pop/run?

I just pulled off the top cover and cleaned the spark plug and I still can't get it to start. It has fresh gas in it and it was stored without gas in the tank since fall. When I looked inside the chamber after trying to start it I didn't even see any gas. The saw doesn't even act like its trying to start at all. I don't where the fuel lines are on the saw but thats what I want to check. It's not leaking gas either. I would really like to get this saw started up because there is a lot of work I need to get done with it this coming weekend (because I couldn't start it today).
I'm not familiar with that saw but it may have a primer on it . Look for a rubber pushbutton near the carb area, if it has one push it several times 'till it fills with mix, then choke it and pull the rope a couple more times. when it fires close choke and pull rope 'till it starts.
just checked and the primer IS filling up with fuel but the saw won't fire. I pressed the primer button 6 times, pulled choke out, pulled a bunch but got nothing. I've only ever started a Husqvarna before and it didn't have a primer. I cleaned the spark plug with sandpaper. Should I run to Walmart and try to buy a new plug? Like I said, when I pulled the muffler off I didn't see any gas in the cylinder and all the internals of the saw look brand new.
Get an eyedropper, if you have one pull the air filter and put about half an eyedropper full of mix into carb or the plug hole. Then try to start it, at least that will confirm spark.
I pulled the plug and plugged it back in, gave it a pull and it made spark
Actually they aren't as bad as everyone says. I have one that was used around the farm for years...to be obsoleted by a Husqvarna 440e.
So your problem is most likely carb kit. Its worth a new plug, fuel line, and a carb kit. It will then probably run until your sick of it...they last forever despite what you may hear. While messing around, pull that muffler and open it up...someone did that and posted a youtube vid...

is it the little 38CC one with the "Powerjoke" motor? if it is a muffler mod is a big help even though the one i had ran like a striped monkey anyway.

Tec if you take the carb off you can clean the insides with spray carb cleaner.
Remove each carb side cover and spray the little holes with cleaner. Do one side at a time and carefully note the orientation of the parts.
You probably should remove the hi and lo jets and clean their passages by spraying cleaner in there too. (you'll pull off the red and white limiter caps to get to them first.) It should run after that. I had one once that model saw. It needed cleaned after sitting over the winter. If the fuel tank was poured out instead of run dry this can happen.
Treat the hi and lo jets gently (they are different sizes) and note their position before removing them by screwing them LIGHTLY in and counting the turns. That way you can get back to the right setting after cleaning and re-installing them.

Just to update I got it running last night by adjusting the carb. It has the powerstroke engine. The only problem is it doesn't have an air filter or air filter assembly... anyone have one for sale or know where I can pick one up cheap?
