    Need help...346 vs 357...

Well my 357 is in the shop having the carb replaced, and Im reading all kinds of good things about the 346. Is there any benefit to the 346 over the 357 for a firewood, bush, brushing, limbing all around go to saw. I would be using my 7900 as my main firewood saw (16-28 inch hardwoods). I am thinking I already have the 357 and its published weights are only a pound more than the 346 but the power is quite a bit more, is there any good reason to trade to the 346.

The real weight difference is close to twise what Husky states.

There will be a large difference when limbing and brushcutting (or just carrying the saw around in the woods) - other than that, it depends on the size of the wood.
    Firewood saws: Jonsereds Raket 621 (1970), Husky 353G (2003), Euro Stihl MS361W (2004), Husky 372xpg (nov 2006), Husky 339xp (may 2007), Husky 346xpg New Edition (sept 2007), Jonsered 2153WH (april 2010), Husky 560xpg (nov 2011).

Witchys saw, Dolmar PS5100SH (also may 2007). Rest in peace, my love!

i would buy the 346 i had a 357 before but it never got used allot because when the 346 was to small it was time to go for the 372 !!!
that would be pretty much the same as going from the 346 to the 7900

Yup. I have an ms361 and a NE346xp. Big difference in weight and handling while limbing. All depends on what you want to do with the saw. Hard to beat a 346xp and 7900 combo.

my 346 weighed 11lb 6oz out of the box. a 357 is a 13lb saw (true weight). when a 346 is stock there is a good bit of difference in the power. if you MM a 346 you are very close to a 357 in power and you have a better handling saw.
346's 357's 359's 372's for sale- PM me if you are looking

The 346 will not cut with a 357/361 in the 18"+ wood, but does not give up much. The plus is that it is a lot lighter and more maneuverable, and feels great in your hands. It takes a few tanks to break these saws in, but once they get there it will amaze you how well they run. This is the PERFECT saw to have in a combo with a 7900/372/440/441 etc. I would never have even thought about buying my 361 if I had the 346.

Sounds like I should be trading or selling it. My 357 only has about 10 tanks of gas through it so its in excellent shape. Im in Canada, can I still get a non cat 346...

Unless you are desperately short of cash, keep the 357xp. You already have sunk costs in the saw, why take a bath? Keep it and buy the 346xp if you are in need of a quick limbing saw. Never hurts to have an extra saw or 6 kicking around. Might come in handy someday. Most of the 346xps I have seen at dealers recently are non-cats. Not sure why but they dont seem to be in short supply for now. Good luck on your decision.

My thinking was the 346, 7900, 880 combo would cover all bases and Id be showing no favoritism amongst brands...

Sure, but I still find my MS361 a very useful saw!

As someone else said, it all depends on what you do (and how you like to do it).

I believe the OP said in another thread that he is worried the 346xp will be too small when he take only one saw into the woods. That is of no consern here, but it may be where he is.....

I sort of did - only that it is a 2153WH, and it isn't salted down.....

Well I think I have it figured out now...I have a 340 and 345 at my business for cutting beams and lumber, I could add the 357 to the shop when one of the 340/345 dies and I would have the 346 for myself. I could buy the 346 now before it goes e-tech and have it all set up for when the Co. takes the 357, hows that for logic!...

On a side note, the 340/345 are great for when a friend or family memeber wants to 'borrow a saw'.
