I also spill a whole lot of gasoline using these new fuel jugs. I guess in order for them to vent the spout cannot be bent down to pour well - so they are difficult to use without spilling.

You can buy the small plastic vents for fuel cans from most motorcycle shops or order them online.

Here is a link to a place that has them for $ 2.75 each.

I have used the 1 1/2 and the 2 1/2 gal can and they work great. They are a little pricey but work very good with very little mess even in string trimmers.

I buy the 5gal metal cans from northern tool and pick up the metal spouts for them on ebay - just toss the silly plastic spouts. I fond the plastic ones decay over time, esp. when exposed to sunlight.

My small 1gal cans that hold saw mix are the plastic enviro style - which I agree sucks.

I wonder if I can still get the rubber vent buttons for the 2.5 gallon metal Eagle cans? I used to use them but the vents all went bad. I think I still have 2 or 3 of them left.
I've heard they swell but I still think I have a crooked gas station in my town. I was able to get 6.5 gallons in my 5 gallon gas can and it wasn't even full. I use a different gas station now.

That's what happens when people can't adapt to new technology, they blame the tool instead of the operator.

I find them at garage sales and flea markets. Way cheap. I don't like the new ones, either, and won't own one until I exhaust all my older-style ones, which range from 1 gal to 7 gal. They should last me the rest of my life unless I get stupid or calamity strikes.

They always sell them at farm auctions, but I have noticed the prices going up.

No problem adapting. The old way was just better, I see no advantage with the new cans.

Only possible advantage is with the gas station selling more gas when new can makes people spill it.

Agree... new cans suck, but I can overcome them

the issue is the cans were designed for tanks with pronounced "lips" to be able to push against and our saws don't have such things. Using a newer can on a trimmer, blower or mower, no problem, no spills . There are a lot of people who need all the help they can get with the mandated safety devices....

most of us can "hear" as a tank is filling up.... some less mechanically inclined simply don't grasp "pour slowly".... so the govt steps in and bang!!!! now we have to deal with safety cans
