I've never owned the 400 or a 445 but you can guess my bias. Go with your best dealer really. I've only cut with a couple of Husky's, but at that I never ran a Husky I didn't like either.
I'd say the single bar nut is only an issue if you plan to due more prybar work than cutting with the saw.The main stress load is through the cross section of the stud or studs not on the nut.

well i dont have a dealer for either one, just lowes and home depot, i have a stihl dealer but im buying online its much cheaper.
I am not a fan of any particular brand but if all I had were a stihl dealer I would buy a stihl! Good dealer support is great especially if you only have one saw and no back up plan! Otherwise go to wally world and buy a wild thing at least its disposable and I know plenty of people that cut alot more wood than that with them and throw them away after 4 or 5 years!

Salvation is not found in a religion...it's found in a person, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
im surprised at the vote count i thought husky was gonna win
That would have been a better comparison by engine size and use.
A 445 would probably beat either one bucking, more cc's, depends on what
the user needs for a small saw. Echo doesn't advertise their HP, are they
ashamed to show it?
So you would only buy a saw or anything based on HP. I know race cars that don't tell their HP but the guys still race them. I don't even care if all of my Echo's have the lowest HP and they prob do but they do what i need and work well. My CS-1001VL prob doesn't have the HP of my neighbors 395XP but so what i can cut the same size tree and if it takes 2 seconds longer so be it...Bob

IF YOU NEED RECOIL DRUMS FOR AN ECHO CS-315 I HAVE THEM.
That is more important than speed.
I did ask a now Echo dealer I have known for a long time about the
5 year warranty, he admitted they didn't like to pay up for bad fuel issues.
435 is about a lb. lighter than cs400, if weight is an issue. 445 about the
same, but 6 cc more.
i looked at both saws for half hour, very closely at lowes and home depot, took the air cleaner cover off, looked in the fuel tanks, i liked the designs better on the echo, with the k and n style automotive air filter(looks like it would work real good,) and had a nice feel to it, but i feel like it would be underpowered i also dont like how they wont "admit" to there horsepower. im sure there good saws i still want one but the husky seemed a little better for me.
now i just hope the husky is tuned good enough out of the box, otherwise i gotta bguy that stupid carb tool.
The air cleaner hardly ever needs cleaning, the jet screws can be turned
with an electric butt splice without the tool. Both are good saws.
I cranked my 98 Makita DCS 520 magnesium case saw earlier, only slightly
heavier, it will walk by either, try a Dolmar 420 for a light fast saw, it is not
a plastic frame saw like a cs 400 & 445.
I've run a few tanks through my neighbors CS400 and each time I've used it I like it more and more. Real easy to start and it feels very good.
Very low vibration. I love the saw for limbing and felling trees under 12".
I have a Husky 350 that I love also but recently has a problem with the gas tank vent leaking. One thing I noticed on the Echo was how clean the air cleaner stays compared to my Husky. It's really amazing how little dust gets on that round air filter. Also if you decide to get the Echo I'd make sure to make the carb richer on the H and L adjustments. My neighbors was set too lean from the factory. I'd take an Echo CS400 any day.
For those of that haven't modded the muffler on a CS400 you need to, huge improvement. Steve
