Thread: help guys!!! strato saw (ryobi 10520) problem

ok i know many of you guys love this saw and i do too, ive had mine for a year with not a single problem besides having to turn the idle up, until now i had a bad idea to shoot a couple bursts of carb cleaner down the carb and the strato ports? if thats what they are called the two openings side by side? i sprayed it in the intake of the carb and those ports now my throttle sticks badly i have to move the trigger in and out manual or by the little ear on the carb itself. inside these ports looks like theres a a plastic thing that controls how much the ports are open by the throttle, letting a certain amount of air in certain positions, i didnt think about it but i think the carb cleaner might have eaten the plastic up and distorted it, i then sprayed some wd40 in there to see if that would help and it did so ive worked the throttle ear back and forth a hundred times and its getting better but still sticks more then normal i have to pull on the trigger instead of press to pull the linkage back to a idle position. any ideas? id prefer not to take the carb off cuse theres saw dust all over everything and i dont wana get it in the motor. what do you think i should do? will it fix it self after running it for 5 mins?

you should start by cleaning the crap off so there's no risk of getting in and screwing up your engine, some of the carb cleaners are very strong and designed for all metal carbs like you get on cars and bikes not these small diaphragm carbs there's to many different materials in there!

if I do use anything its WD40 followed by a petrol wash strait after, more recently I've been using a silicone spay lubricant, safe on rubber vinyl plastics etc.

I would start by taking off the carb and finding out exactly what's sticking
is it the carb or more likely the linkage to it?

and then take it from there

rusty, i don't know if you mean this as a joke, or if you are serious. if its the later, you need to take some time a do a little reading. they do need a little tweaking from the factory, mostly to do with the fuel line and the obligatory MM, but they are probably the best 40cc saw going.

well after soaking those plastic peices with wd40 and sitting over night it started up today and i cut up a tree with no problems, im very glad to have this saw back, as i really love this saw, it out cuts bigger stihls and huskys and starts up in 2 pulls after months of sitting, and i havent had a problem with anything on it, besides that tiny fuel tank i get 15 mins of use before i have to refuel haha its not my fanciest saw but its a good saw.

Keep the carb cleaner on the shelf if it has acetone or xylene. Tough on plastic check valves and diaphrams.

Glad your saw is running, and I think my Ryobi is a cool little saw for $100.
Just don't kid yourself that it will cut with bigger pro saws....Modded, It won't even cut with my Ms 250.

You must have a poor running ryobie.
I know for a fact mine will embarrass a ms250,done it..
done it to that 48cc stihl whatever that one is also.
this vid is on a crotch of red oak ,thats the hardest part of the tree,avg about 14 inches..notice no pushing on the saw or digging in and making it work..also notice about an inch a second cutting time

I just put kits in the carbs. of a Homelite 360 and a Husq. 51.
I sprayed carb. cleaner through all the holes I could find when I had them apart. Any chance I did damage ?

I spoke with Brad and did the muffler mod on the ryobi, and ther is no way it cuts with my stock MS 250. Maybe the Chain diff? I am running 91 LP S56 on a 16" bar. Not very aggressive compared to the Stihl. Don't get me wrong, I love the saw, and it rides the whole farm on my quad......I have cut with them on the same project and I just don't see it

If that is a tie-strap bumper chain, try swapping for a better chain.
I am running Carlton N1C-BL on a Poulan S-25 & PP260, it still has
kickback reduction due to the ramped DL, cuts much better and longer
cutter.
Bailey's has WP equivalent w/o safety features, think Oregon 91VXL
is similar.

Well,tnx for the respect and i return it..
However,a homie 360 or a husky 51 dont have plastic carbs,they are made of metal and once apart carb cleaner poses no problem..i have rebuilt more than i can count of each one and am VERY familiar with them

Brad was "one" of the insperations to get a ryobie,i have two..
you posted a "modded" ryobie couldnt keep up.
mine has more that just a muff mod..it is fully "modded"..
i have put it in the wood against the afore mentioned saws and it ate them up..sorry about the truth but that is the way it is..been there,done that..
a fellow member that is a neighbor can attest to these facts as he has run his stihl's aginst it and knows how the little saw cuts..
if your ryobie cant keep up to a stock ms 250,something is wrong with it..and i wouldnt call just a muff mod "modded"..
