saw storage hanging or flat on a shelf

I put several heavy duty hooks on the wall of my barn. Can I let my saws hang from the rear handle(pointing towards the ground) or do they need to be flat to prevent leaks etc?

I store mine flat. I think storing them vertically may not be that great of an idea. I would be concerned with fuel and oil getting into the intake and cylinder.

If the saws are balanced fairly well, you can hang them by the front handle, and they stay relatively horizontal. In the old Stihl shop, we had a rack for hanging saws off the floor to save space. It worked great! A row of saws on the floor, and another row hanging above them.

Mine hang vertical by the handle in the barn.

No issues with fuel flooding the cylinder, and if I remember to burp the oil tank, no dripping bar oil.

I have seen them hung by their rear handles but I personally prefer to lay them flat, mostly due to dripping oil. I had never thought about it being hard on the AV buffers but that is a good point. I store my saws under the workbench on a layer of cardboard.

Hard on the AV buffers??? These are chainsaws not porcelain figurines.

FWIW, I have around 25 saws hanging by the handles,12 on a shelf, and the other 35 sitting wherever they fit. A litte dripping bar oil, but only because I'm too lazy too drain it--not the saw's fault.

If hanging them is hard on the AV bushings, ya might wanna stop cutting with 'em too, as that's gonna be really rough on 'em.

Hang the baby saws by the handle. Put the bigger saws flat...and not on bare concrete.

mine sit flat on a shelf in the garage with a rag under them for the dripping oil. I also keep one in my pickup (sitting flat) with a gallon of gas and some bar oil, like the American Express Card "Never leave home without it".
