288 deflector is what most people use it require no welding just cutting or drilling. 503 07 83 01 is what most use. I'll get a picture up in just a minute for you.

I used a 288 deflector on my 372 since I need a spark screen. But on my 365 I cut 3 slits about an inch long and spread them out.

I cut the front off my deflector.

:agree2: Got to redo mine when it gets back from TN. After puttin the ported top end, it started melting the top plastic through the stock exhaust port

Just out of curiosity, how much louder do these muffler mods make the saw? Is it insignificant or is it SCREAMING after putting in an extra port on the muffler?

Depends on whether or not you're standing in front of it...:hmm3grin2orange: If they're aimed away from you, they're not bad. Of course, if you're noodling, it'll bounce off the face of the big round and make your ears bleed....

That depends on what you call loud.:D To me they are not that loud but my wife and the neighbors do not agree with that. It does though in fact make quite a bit of a 'noise' difference.

Do you want your saw to have more power, last longer and run cooler reducing the risk of scouring/galling your piston. Noise what noise!!
Shep

How big of a hole do you guys make when you add the 288 deflector? I drilled 2 7/16" holes side by side then cut out the middle to make one hole. Too much? The factory opening seems to be much larger so I thought it was a little conservative at first.....

It sounds a whole lot better at idle now ;) Only had it wide open a couple of times to check 4 stroking after adjustment, will have to make final adjustment in the cut. It seems to 4 stroke around 13,500 - hope that's about what others are finding. I'm hesitant about turning it any higher without making a few cuts to see how it does first.

zack baileys sent me some new mufflers for the 372 build off, i will be sending you one back with your saw so that you can put 288 deflectors on it. i myself try to not open the top exit up too much becouse it will shoot the exhaust up toward your hand. i open it up some but not enough to cause heat. i then put a 288 deflector on the clutch side or add a hole in the front through the brace on the muffler. but now when you talk about loud my xpw will make the members 2 counties over wear ear muffs. its just there for looks

Yea Terry, in hindsight, I know it probably wasnt the best idea :)
Ill most likely get the stock port tigged shut and use the clutch side deflector method.
But the last 288 deflector I had, went missing. Guess I couldve pulled them from the 288s hah.
I just know a tube out the front like my 350 will set the wood on fire.
