    038 Crank removal

I'm rebuilding my 038 Magnum and am wondering if the special tools AS 5910 890 2205 and ZS 5910 890 2220 are really needed, or does someone have a good way of removing it without them.
I searched the forum for those part numbers and didn't come up with much discussion about them.

    Thanks

    All the time

The clutch side tool is used all the time, but most have made their own that bolts onto the bar studs.

The flywheel side can then be pushed out with a press & wood blocks, or you can use a heat gun on the
case where the bearing is & use a soft faced hammer on the FW nut on the shaft to remove it. Get it over
250F & it slides right out. You are replacing the seals anyway...

    Great, thanks.
I'm not at all averse to making my own tool if it's doable without a machine shop (I have metal saws, welder, drill press and the like).

Four wheel drive allows you to get stuck
    in places even more inaccessible.
