    Oh my God!

I believe you have worked with the dirtiest old saw I have seen in a long time.

How was the compression on that old girl? I can't believe that much of that crud wasn't ingested into the combustion chamber.

Did you make it a runner?

The venerable 041 can take a beating, I hope she is pulling a chain for you now that you have added all the missing pieces, etc.!!!

yeah she runs but some of the fins broke off the fly wheel and now i bought a other one to go on it.

i don't know what the compression is i don't have a gauge but she is hard as heck to pull over. and if your not carefull it will backspin and almost break your arm.

the combustion chamber was cleanest as i ever seen before they was not a speck of crud or anything in it.

I went back and looked at your before pic, and couldn't see any missing fins. My 041FB has a missing fin and it doesn't matter. They vibrate some anyway.

Isn't that remarkable that with all that crud on the saw, it didn't ingest enough to scratch up the pistom, etc. Those darn old 041's last for almost 50 years now and just keep going on and on! Then they talk about all the new air filtering improvements on the modern saws!

The kickback you are experiencing is not all that bad, as the spark is timed on the razor edge and gives the saw a little extra 'snap". You can retard the spark just a little, and the kickback would go away if you are concerned. Just rotate the stator plate "slightly" counter clockwise. I haven't timed an 041 in over 40 years, so I can't be sure, but you may be able to loosen the 3 screws on the stator through the windows in the flywheel after removing the fan without pulling the flywheel. Then again, I am probably wrong about not pulling the flywheel. OH well! Haha!

Nice use of elbow grease to that mess cleaned up. Go to a bicycle shop and get some handle bar tape to replace the old handle bar covering. Will spruce up the old girl a little to make up for the abuse from before.

well they wasn't broke untill i got it going. i got it started and thats when they came loose and tore up my other starter on it and put a hole in the gas tank. i didn't see they was cracked untill i started it and they started to come loose while it was running.

yeah i bouht a flywheel on e-bay and it should be here next week sometime and i'm just going to replace the fan on it.and use my old flay wheel where i know it's good. But she turned out pretty well i was thinking about repainting it but if i did that i wounldn't won't to use to cutt wood with i would be afaid i would scratch it LOL.

Very nice job, I love the old saws. I've done an 041 also and I have a ball running it. I have lighter more powerful saws but my 041 always goes cutting with me every time. My Poulan 245A gets jealous so it has to go with me too, most of the time.

Rep Sent, if I have any.

The handle bar tape will also give a little bit of cushion.

Yes, I just recently adjusted the timing of my 041's and you can loosen the stator screws through the flywheel window. Only 2 screws to loosen though. ~Zane
