056 Super apart and in a box. Questions.

Got a chance to pick up a Stihl 056 Super anti vibe.
It needs new cyl/pis, bearings, seals. Basically a complete rebuild. The housing and handle is in great shape. carb is in a baggie with a hundred screws. How is this saw for a rebuild and are parts readily available?
I don't have time to search as I'm at work. Just need a solid opinion.
He also has a mini mac that appears to be froze up and a Dolmar that turns over.
I was thinking $100 for all. $60 just for 056.
    Opinions?

The 056 would be worthwhile, tho AV mounts can sometimes be difficult to get for older Stihls. I consider the Mini-Mac to be a throw-in on this; gut it and use it for a bird house. What model Dolmar?

I'd be in for under $100 on this one if the Dolmar looks salvageable.

    Good luck!
    Ted

IMHO the 056 was one of the best chainsaws ever made. Made a lot a loggers a lot of $. If your patient you'll probably be able to put that Classic back together. Well worth it!

It is not a dolmar it says Lombard on the case.
    Also a Pioneer 1073

The ignition thing scares me. This is not something I will get to right away and was going to sell if I refurbed it.

The SEM was used on some Husky models and Dolmar. I know the 2100 used on and it will work. Not sure about the Dolmar. Some models came with a Bosch ignition too.

Ok I have a few pics. Nothing spectacular but here they are anyways.
The misc junk is mostly parts for an 025 I believe.
The 056 looks like it was mostly there. Hard to tell when it is apart and in a box. I guess he took it to dealer and it was too expensive to repair. The dealer is the one who took it apart and then it was left in this box to rot.
    The pioneer supposedly runs.
The Lombard turns over but that is all I know.
The mini mac is just cute. I like the bird house idea.
He offered it all for $100.
After a lot of debate and searching for parts I told him it just wasn't worth it. I would give him $35 for the 056 saw or $50 for everything. (I really like the birdhouse idea)
He said no he would just throw it back on the pile.
The 056 has a scored piston and the cylinder is grooved. The crank sounds gritty at best. I don't see getting out of it for under $300 and that is on the shy end. It's hard to even look up part prices on this. Not much around. There is a few floating around on ebay for $100 to $250 so that doesn't seem real promising. Sounds like it would be a fix er up and keep er type deal.
I just bought an 044 for that. Oh well.
Hopefully I'll get some more info from you all. The deal is always still there.

I gotta say the CAD in me wanted to scoop em all up. Even if it just meant something to tinker with. My biggest problem is Spring is here and I need the money for all the house stuff I need to get done. I wish their was something in there I could sell off and at least make $50. Then I could just keep everything else and satisfy my CAD for a few months. LOL
    Anybody need some 025 parts?

I do not have much to add about the 056, but I have always hated looking for parts.
That is why I got rid of some of my older saws and traded them for newer ones.
I would have to get it all fixed up and something break and not be able to fix it.
that would really piss me the #### off!!!

did some searching about this very topic last night ,read that the SEM ignition from a 08s or even a ts350 will work on the 056,but you need the flywheel as well

Splitpost, that is a true statement. You can find cutoff saws, TS350 but they used two style of coils too. The cutoff saws live a a hard life to begin with so the pistons are the first to go and the coil is usually the second.

Husky 2100 used them also. Mine has one in it from a Husky. Don't tell anyone though!!!!

    056 Worth it?

I've done a couple 056s and find them to be a great saw to run. The torque is awesome!!
I have many 045/056 parts including SEM flywheels and could help on needed parts. Just PM me.
Sem Ignition is available but expensive, the flywheel isn't but see above.
