    New to me Husqvarna 266XP

    266xp-2.jpg

Just bought the above saw yesterday.

I'm looking for a users manual in PDF format if anyone has one. I found a manual for the regular 266 (attached) but am not sure it would be the same as a 266XP manual.

The serial number on this machine is 6473665, Can someone tell me how old it is?

Also need some help regarding what type of bar and chain I need for this.
It already has a 20" Bar and chain on it and I would like to get a larger bar and chain.

I have a 18" 450 already and am doing mainly firewood along with taking down some trees.
I am looking to go with at least a 24" bar on this.
    Give me some input please.
    Thanks

It was made 1986 week 47.
24" is the max you should run on that saw although its happier with a 20". It uses a large mount bar like the Windsor 24EM50STA LINK

That looks like the right manual you have there except I see only page 1 there...

I just saw something that said the black plate serial numbers are from the 80's and the silver plates are from the 90's. This has a silver serial number plate.P4100057.JPG I thought this might be a little newer than 86 as it has the composite material chain brake as opposed to the metal one?

I do have the entire 266 manual, Arboristsite won't allow an attachment larger than 125KB so I couldn't attach the whole manual.
    Thanks

I believe 1986 is the last year for the silver tag, and in 1987 they went to the black tag. Your saw most likely had the metal brake handle originally. That clutch cover is interchangeable with the 268 and 272 and they had many different variations of it, it probably got swapped out at some point, no biggie.

    Nice saw ya got there!

Right, same conclusion as I arrived at, based on availiable info and pictures.

At the moment, I can find only the 1982 and 83 266se user manuals on the Husky site, and the fage posted is from one of those. There used to be a 1997 266xp manual somewhere, but I couldn't find it when looking yesterday......

Witchys saw, Dolmar PS5100SH (also may 2007). Rest in peace, my love!

I have the same saw is the same condition. Great find!! Mine is a black tag that I think was made in 1988. It has the steel chain brake lever. Mine came with a 24" bar. It's OK, but a 20"bar would be better. I have a 20"B&C. Just never got around to using it. Mine is a shelf queen.

So much for Husqvarna customer support!
I was suspect of their answer after they sent me to their manual download area for the request I made of a users manual.
There is no info on their site for a 266XP. At least not in the manual and parts list search engines.

There is, but just enter 266, not 266xp.

I'll be back, I will have to look a bit further into something.....

    OK, became afraid I had made a mistake, but that was not the case - the post I deleted was true, so I repost it here;

Btw, the 266xp is one of the models that actually was made there, but apparently not yours.

    Cigar,

I've got a 266xp that I bought in Dec. 1987 and I still have the owners manual and illustrated parts list. I can scan and send you the pdf's if you are interested?

    266 bars

I ran my 266 with the 30 inch bar off my 2100 whilst I was rebuilding it. I cut up a trailer load of 30 inch mixed softwood and it never missed a beat. I wouldnt go much bigger than a 24 in hardwood though.

Mine has no problem pulling a 28" bar & chain, but that's probably as long as I would go...beyond that and the 395xp comes off the shelf.
