Some tools that come in handy are piston ring compressorand a stop block for under the piston, it helps elevate and position the piston so the cylinder can be more easily slid on over the piston and the compressed rings.

I know how to read instructions but I seldom follow them.
Its good to dabble in the sewer, you will really appreciate getting out.
Sometimes I just use a small screwdriver being very careful to push the ring in. The other method I use is to use a tie wrap to compress the ring and let it slide down the piston when you put the jug on and then cut it with dikes and remove it.

I first check the rings out.
How they fit the ring groove?
How they fit in the cylinder and check the end gap after squaring each ring in the cylinder with the piston.
I set the first ring on top of the piston with an end by the pin. I start the end in the groove by the pin and wipe my thumb around the piston so the rest of the ring follows around the piston into the groove. For two rings, I repeat this to get the first ring in the second groove.
Then follow suit with the second ring.
I use a tie wrap to squeeze the rings in so I can start the piston into the cylinder. As the tie wrap drops around the rod, I cut the tie wrap off.

Do you have a cheap junker saw? If so, practice on that one several times. Getting the old ring or rings off, reinstall them, slide the cylinder on. Take it off, do it again.
Don't forget to use a little bit of lube, no need to drown things, just a little to help slide things into place.
Never turn your back on your friends or your enemies
One other point, check the ring/rings are the correct way up, as some saws have top marked on the ring & they only fit one way. also make sure the shaped ring end fits correctly around the locating pin on the piston, before you try to fit the assembly in the cylinder [the very best advice i received on this as a trainee was take it at half the speed of VERY slowly]
Any small engine repair shop could get them for you and there is several sellers on eBay that sell them. They are usually sold for less than $10. for a set that contains 3 different sized ring compressors and one support block. I paid around $5. for mine from a local saw dealers shop.

Thank you very much for all of the replies, i'm terms of oil should I just use a little 2 cycle oil on the piston and crank seals?
