what is he likely to cut? - occasionally or clearing lots of land

If it's serious daily cutting, expect to spend $500 and up - don't shop for cheap

As far as brand, read thru as many forums as you can, everyone's got their favorite - mine's any old all-metal homelite

I'm too cheap to pay for a good new saw

As I mentioned, I only like old saws, but there's great saws out there, you're on the right track by asking questions first.

Read the recent post about fake Husky- made in china.

Sadly, sometimes deals ARE to good to be true.

    luck,greg

What length of bar would be used most of the time?
If he is cutting most every day he needs a PRO quality saw. Todays saws in the PRO classes are mostly Stihl, Husqvarna and Dolmar, at least here in North America.

yes, please tell us what size wood he will be cutting. The size of wood will determine the size of bar and chain needed, and from there we can tell you what size saw you need. A professional quality chainsaw suited for daily long term use will be expensive. Can you tell us what brands are available to you?

Info to find Stihl dealers: STIHL - Philippines

I can't find a Husqvarna dealer website but I see used ones on Sulit.com.ph so there must be new ones available in country

Also look for Dolmar and Echo brand dealers while you are searching. It is preferable to purchase from a dealer that can provide parts and service so see what is available

thanks for your time, but i was thinking about this saw in this link

Amazon.com: Husqvarna Model 460 Rancher Chainsaw (60cc) with 24" Bar and Chain: Patio, Lawn & Garden

what do you think about it? is it good? does it required a mantaninace frequantly?

if you know a spacific modle that you recommend to me that would be awesome

    thanks
