Been lots of good stuff lately about aftermarket cylinders and pistons going around. Good discussions and interesting comments with some good and bad pictures. As most of you have read, I seem to be in the center of most of them discussions. I need some help, your opinion and expertise. I've never seen nor heard of this done before..... So with that said.. here we go!

I've been doing serious research, bunches of tests going around. Randy and Meteor Kits, Brad and Meteor kits, Jeremy and HyWay Kits, Randy and Mako kits, Rikk and an unknown Chinese kit and now some special kits courtesy of a fellow member hook-up. These were flown in a few weeks ago and I'm just now getting to them. There have been several kits tested already in the MS660 56mm size and 372 52mm sizes with really good results! Those kits are available on my site as we speak and will give outstanding results exactly as they are. I consider these kits grade "A" quality! Probably as good as Meteor or very near... could be better, we'll see.

These new kits are in a smaller size and need a tester to install and report... pictures are expected for all to see. I have looked them over and there should be no problems with them. Quality is excellent, finish is excellent, piston, rings, clips included and I may even have a gasket set to throw in for a couple of them (not sure).

I can offer these to you at cost... to a selected few and in exchange for the reduced cylinder kit cost.... you provide a thread documenting the test, report the measurements of squish and compression. You get to decide what's good and what's bad. I have a limited number of kits, I ask that you can complete the test within a couple weeks. If the cylinder and piston works out, no issues, the saw will run without damaging anything... keep it and run the doggy-dog out of it... you got a great deal and some influence to improve the quality of aftermarket kits for future users.

The kits crap, won't run, might hurt a saw, take some good measurements... send it back with comments why and we ask the manufacturer to make improvements and if he doesn't want to play... we sink'em!

I'd like testers with a good knowledge of saw rebuilding to do these and I reserve the right to pick you. Send me a PM with the model you have ready to rebuild and if chosen... I'll PM you asking for an address. Do not send me a list of 15 saws... one kit per member and I need only a few testers as I have only a few to test. I will name the testers here in this thread and when I've got the number of testers I need, will announce the required testers have been chosen. I am not going to tell you the size of the kits, they are smaller than MS660 and all Stihl kits. Sorry Husky guys, your thread will be coming soon!!

I provide a very good quality kit at a reduced price, you provide a write-up announcing the results for all to see and I give your comments to the manufacturer. I can't test them all, hoping some of you would help?

Randy and Henry have sent me several different brands and configurations to test, here's one that will not cut it.

Before I posted this pic I asked Randy what he wanted to do with this kit......his answer? He said let's show it to the members and let them know what we found out. I like your style Sir. :bowdown:

So.....this is the Mako 066BB kit. It free ports at TDC really badly. It's not something I would use, and would recommend that you guys avoid as well......for now. This is the sort of feedback we need to help these kits improve.

The ports look fair, but the plating is really nice. It goes all the way to the top with no gap at the top of the bore......makes me wonder how they got everything right but missed that it free ports .060"

I'm wanting to see some of the other Mako kits to see if this is just an oversight on the 066BB. In the meantime they will be contacted about this issue.
 
I bought a Raismann 066 kit. Not too bad, it very mildly freeports with the Raismann piston at TDC but does not freeport at all with an OEM Stihl or Mahle piston. It has a ton of exhaust timing, around 170 degrees duration.
 
Two thumbs up for Randy! I really appreciate all the trouble your going to too prove that there can be worthy AM cylinders out there for people on a budget. And for putting forth the effort to see that they are up to snuff.:clap:

I hear yeah JJ.....and a slight free port wouldn't be a huge deal. I've done up a 066BB with a 395XP piston before, but it's way more involved than what the average Joe is looking for. These kits really need to be bolt on and go to be something worth bragging about.

Just got a 460 NWP BB kit today that is right on the edge of free porting. If I take .050 of the base it will free port .050 how will that affect the performance?

I've built several that were free porting some....in fact the 066 I built for the WKY build off was free porting .030. It won't effect performance. I don't want to see one free porting out of the box though.
 
If you need somebody to do some smaller stihls, such as a 036 and smaller, I can be of assistance.. But I dont have any of the newer blingy saws... If you need, just PM me!
