This saw is so little it's cute, lol. I ran it stock, then modded the muffler, then advanced the ignition timing. It responded very well. I got about a 20% gain with just a MM. Throttle response improved tremendously. You can't continuously blip the throttle. It seems to have an accelerator pump and will load up if you do. Advancing the ignition timing was good for nearly another 10%. All in all, this is quite an impressive little saw, at least after a MM. The chain on it is tiny, so it doesn't get in a hurry. It's hardly designed for this size of wood either. I didn't file the chain. It's just as I received it. I'm not sure I even have a file that small!

Check out how it makes a 201T look so big!

I believe you're right the carb does have an accelerator pump...is the key integrated in the flywheel like the 201? Where do you source files that small to get in there to grind on that tiny little key? Its a pro design with the split mag case...price tag is a little up there in my opinion

ms 130?

is there such thing, guy [he insists it is, no pics tho] wants a boat motor I have & this will be part of the deal... googled, closest I came was km130... never heard of 150 til now... tia. edit, finally got him on phone & lookin @ saw @ same time... is 170.

Madsens had one next to a 192t and it made the 192 feel quiet a bit heavier. Their cute, but at $499, I'll leave it be. Maybe good for cutting daisey's and roses. Brad the chain should have been standard 1/4 so filing should not be an issue. The bar is the same one used on Stihl's home owner pole saw.

First of all...this saw is not for the heavy handed. You need to possess SOME finesse.

I would have sharpened it a little if I knew it was going to the dance tonight. Stihl makes an appropriate file and I would have feathered the rakers a little too.

But for what it is designed for...even right out of the box...it is a very impressive saw with all the usable power right there and right now. I am happy Brad worked some magic with it tho. The videos make his expertise apparent. This saw makes me smile every day I unsnap it from my saddle or pull it out of the bucket scabbord. See ya Thu to pick it up Brad...I know you are gonna want to pass up the exit lol.

It'll take a LOT heavier hand now than it did. Throttle response is WAY improved and cut speed in this cant is up about 30%. If you liked it before, you'll love it now. I'll trade it back for that 090AV:)

A real nice little saw. Very similar tp my efco/oleo mac 2600. But to be honest for that money I would take a a echo 355!
Thanks for the first honest review!

We love em over here, so light! I did an oak dismantle with mine, stuff up to 15"
How much did you open the muffler brad?

15 inches (and dismantles) is/are pushing it no matter what the mods are. This is not a saw for takedowns. Would certainly pull out a 200 201 series before applying this saw. But if that is all you have...?

There may be light powered top handled saws that compare to this but I doubt they are this light and most important...they are not Stihl. Ergonomics, dependability, usable power and the last and equally important aspect ...longevity and toughness. I have already used this saw many many hours pruning and even had it torn out of my hands and dropped 15 or 20' and it took it in stride.

But this new 201...the worst saw for pro s Stihl has EVER produced hands down.

That 090 and I have too much history together to ever part with it. I bought that saw new in 79 and prior to that I owned Homelite Whiz 88's (gear drives). Way back then a best friend of mine and I were running modified Stihls in a Woodsmen contest in Flemington NJ at the fairgrounds, and winning them all. A handful of people I know own 90's (including you Brad) and that list is getting shorter all the time. It goes out before my '88 if they are both sharp that day.
