    Off the shelf

    Hi,

After reading alot of posts here, I think it is safe to say that Stihl, Husky, Jonsereds, are all great saws, so I don't want to open up that can of worms. There is a lot of talk about performing mods to the saws. Now, I am looking for a new saw but I am not inclined to be performing mods on my new saw. I am wondering what types of saws perform well right off the shelf.

    Thanks

    Thumbs up

I have a new Stihl MS 260 Pro. So far I have only had the chance to run about three tanks of gas through it. I have noticed a significant increase in performance in that short time.

the jonsereds will be fairly popular in your area, smaller saw 2152-2159, larger saw 2171

hi, ibought a 2159 jonsered put 3/8 chain 16" bar on it and seems to have good rip, makes me smile when i sink it in a chunk of wood.lol my father in law has a 2152 and depending on your intended use this smaller saw is very impressive.

    Larry, (or Anyone)
Does a saw perform noticably better after it breaks in? I too have a brand new ms260. I have not had a chance to use it other than starting it.

Should I expect it to run better after a few tanks than it does the first day?

Had my 1st saw sent to me from Annapolis Royal (Jonsered 2050), have since bought a 2095, both great saws. Never hurts to go big though!

Some saws, like the Husky xps, Stihl MS361 and Dolmar 5100, 7300 and 7900 have more effective porting to begin with.
I suggest you stay with these, if mods are out of the question....

Another approach is to simply buy a larger saw....
    Firewood saws: Jonsereds Raket 621 (1970), Husky 353G (2003), Euro Stihl MS361W (2004), Husky 372xpg (nov 2006), Husky 339xp (may 2007), Husky 346xpg New Edition (sept 2007), Jonsered 2153WH (april 2010), Husky 560xpg (nov 2011).

Witchys saw, Dolmar PS5100SH (also may 2007). Rest in peace, my love!
