Pioneer Farm Saw ignition

Hi there, I'm looking for an ignition module for my old Pioneer Farm Saw (1980)
The ignition module is a prestolite #3405347. I hate to scrap this old saw because I can't find the part for it, as it has served me well !! In fact, I have a parts saw for other parts, however the coil is bad on that one also.
Alternatively, I'm looking at a Husky 455 rancher as a replacement if I can't find the part. Any insight into this saw ?

Hi Rod-

You might be able to find a Homelite ignition that will work in place of your factory Pioneer ignition. Prestolite made ignitions for several makes and models of saws at the time and I believe there's a Homelite ignition (perhaps for the SXO?) that crosses over and works on the smaller Pioneer saws (P-42 and under). There's other members here that I know are more knowledgeable than I on this subject.

If you have to scrap her I am in need of her starter rope recoil spool, pn430609 on my IPL.

Your in need of pn475320 by my IPL.

I purchased mine new in Alamogordo, NM late 79 or early 80. She doesn't have a chain brake but the IPL shows the required parts as an insert.

This gent [email protected] (Spokane, WA) listed a farmsaw on Craig's List for $80.00. My better half thought a new saw over an unknown commodity better. I NEVER argue when she wants me to buy a new tool.

Go to your local Poulan dealer and tell him that you want to order a 507475320 ignition module. It should be about $60.00 USD.

Hi guys, thanks for getting back to me so quickly !!! Anyway, Lou... I may have the spool you are looking for on my old "parts saw"..I'll check this out.
Greg, are you positive that that poulan coil will work ? I'd hate to order one in and be stuck with it if it is the wrong one !!
I have a dealer tell me that the coil is the same on the Homelite xl76, however I found a person with an old xl76 and the coil looks the same but mounts a bit differently.

Also, another question for you guys... the ID on the two coils I have are different.. One is "A241", while the other is "1392" These are the coils of the identical farm saws !! When I looked again at the coil, the number I originally posted with is only the patent number.

Poulan bought Pioneer just before Electrolux bought Poulan. In most but, not all cases, just add the 507 prefix to the 6 digit Pioneer part number and your home free.

Farm Saw

I have one of these saws I rescued from the dump. Haven't been able to get a single pop out of it. It has good spark, but with the built-in compression release, I can't tell much about compression.

I have pulled the muffler and shot some gas in there and still could not get a pop.

Any ideas? Shall I take it back to the dump? It seems to be in nice shape. Neither the piston nor the cylinder appear to be scored.

You sound fairly knowledgeable already.
Fuel, spark, and compression are all thats needed for an engine to run. Guessing your rings bad from your description.
One more possibility, There is an automatic decomp valve activated by the starter. Remove the starter cover. The relief is slightly below and aft of the ignition coil. If it is always open (depressed) that may also be your problem.

Drop me an e-mail I'll send you an IPL that can help clarify any repair. Once you have the IPL I can better explain how to override the compression release.

Personally I'm hoping you opt to bag it and send it to me. If your starter engages I can repair my saw. I don't have the heart to scrap her, to many years of good service.

sorry guys for restarting a old thread but i typed in the patent # on this prestolite coil i have and it brought up this thread in page 1 in top position so my question is does anyone need this coil ? or have been looking for one ?
