    Spark arrestor on Husqvarna 346XP

This probably isn't the silliest question ever posed here but it might be close. I removed the screen/spark arrestor from my e-tech 346XP and am wondering if any damage will occur as a result thereof? I did note a significant increase in db's but haven't tried it on for size yet.

Will it cause damage to the saw?- NO

Will it cause damage if you cut in a dry area and are not observant and careful, and start a fire in the brush?- POTENTIALLY

Will it cause damage to your wallet if you are caught on State or Federal land cutting without it?- YES

And then on the other hand I say what the heck and keep on pluggin along!

I removed the spark arrestor screen on Witchys 5100 as soon as it arrived.

The resulting rpms was 14200, perfect for run-in, according to CuttinScott.
    Firewood saws: Jonsereds Raket 621 (1970), Husky 353G (2003), Euro Stihl MS361W (2004), Husky 372xpg (nov 2006), Husky 339xp (may 2007), Husky 346xpg New Edition (sept 2007), Jonsered 2153WH (april 2010), Husky 560xpg (nov 2011).

Witchys saw, Dolmar PS5100SH (also may 2007). Rest in peace, my love!

You will get a much larger improvement from ditching the cat muffler and replacing it with non cat one. It will be a totally different saw.

chucks right, spark arrestors are a good thing,EdL has the best idea, get a non cat muffler for it and keep the screen in it the firefighters and your saw will be happier.

+ 1 on that, the E-cat mufflers are stooooopid. They cripple performance and shorten the life of your saw. Cars and power plants, fine, but the EPA is wasting effort and screwing up the industry fussing with chainsaws, they simply are not meaningful contributors to pollution.. there's just not enough of 'em. Take it off and have no guilt. If you're worried about air quality, consolildate your trips to the store and turn the lights off when you're done.
I've got a bunch of good runners, so I'll not bother to list' em.. here's some active projects... more in mothballs

Near-term projects: Husqvarna 394, Stihl 066 red light, Stihl 044, 046, 038 mag II, HVA 359, Oh, a few 372s.... I LOVE those things! Just bought a 346xp wreck... gonna port the splat out of it... I'm excited!

Upgraded to a Jotul F500. Waaaay better!

Hey, I made a website... check it out:
