    Bar length for 028WB

Hey guys, so I've got this sweet 028WB and I'd like to put an 18" bar on it. I'm wondering how well they do in dead hardwood with an 18". It's got a 16" on it now and it's about shot, but has a new chain....anyway, if it will handle the 18" with authority, I'd like to go that way. It does quite well with the 16.

Not sure which 028 you have, they came in 3 different displacements. Mine is a super (the biggest) I rebuilt with NOS cyl assy (e.g. fresh motor). It pulls a 16" .325 RS chain in hardwood no problem so I imagine an 18" would not be streching it, maybe a 20" but if its buried all the time it will be slow and you'll have to keep the revs up. My 036 which is bigger (8 cc?) is just about happy with the 20".

    028 super (rebuilt with OEM)
036 pros (1 runner, 1 just rebuilt with OEM parts)
    038 supers (2 converted to 038M , the other waiting it's turn)

028's out here in the PNW usually have a 20"er on them. No worries. It'll pull it just fine. Be it the older models or the newer ones. Super or non-super.
