    New found homelite

I recently picked up a homelite "super 2"

It is really neat, it's a combination tophandle/rear handle saw. it has 2 throttle triggers one up front to use as a top handle and one at the back to use as a rear handle. I will try to get some pics.

Anyone have information about this saw? is it rare or anything? I have never seen anything like it

    Thanks alot,

    Craig

    Hom elite

That saw was around 10,15 years ago. I don't think it was much good,Used it a few times , cut OK but to small a motor. I guess I was more of a Homelite SuperXL12 kind of guy

My brother in law has a couple Super 2's. Nothing to write home about, but I guess it is a serviceable little saw. Parts are readily available, as you see one or two on Ebay ending every day.

That saw, in particular, is coveted by guys building little go-karts as the engine is completely separable from the chassis of the saw-or so I've been told.

I saw one of these on craigslist for ten bucks a couple months ago. Guy said it had been sitting for a couple years and now wouldn't start. Called about ten minutes too late. The guy who got it must have got it running, saw it back on craigslist a couple weeks later for $100.00 Looked like a neat little saw, especially for ten bucks!

Ten bucks is about what they are worth,no offense. This is another little saw you have to nearly field strip to work on,not for the impatient .They are what they are .Meant to be a little trim the trees on the back yard twice a year type saw. They sold brand new for about a hundred bucks.I once saw the Super 2's on sale for $89.95 with a 10" bar.

This one had a 10" bar and trimming the trees and bushes around the house is all I would want it for, maybe a Christmas tree once a year. For ten bucks I figured why not? Probably a sign AS is becoming too much of an influence on me!

    Hi Craig,
The Super 2 (1.9 cu in ) has a little bit larger engine than the XL and XL-2 (1.6 cu in). and are nice little trimming and general around-the-house kinda saws. The auto oiling system is a bit troublesome, but in general I like these saws. Certainly not rare; a good one should be no more than $30-$50. Earlier ones used a magnesium body housing and later ones evolved into plastic.

    Super 2

I picked one up in the garbage, actually I saw a saw case and needed one and it happened to have the saw inside. After draining the water that had accumulated inside the saw, and a new plug it started right up and has been working for 5-6 years now, without much of a problem. I typically cut 5 cords of hardwood a year, and I always take it with me and use it when cutting. I have the plastic version which I don't think came with the dual triggers, but can still be used as a top handle. I replaced the original 18" bar with a 14" and is better balanced and easier to work with. I use it primarily for limbing, downed trees, but do occasionally use it for blocking smaller trees. It's light weight makes it super handy and won't wipe you out. Easy to pull and start. As mentioned before they are a pain to service, you have to take a lot of stuff off to get into it. The air filter is a joke but it keeps it running.
