Talking A big thanks to Spike, project 041

I saw a post awhile back that Spike said he had 2 041's. I asked if I could buy one and here it is. It doesn't look too bad considering it is older than me, LOL. I just searched and came up with all kinds of info so I will be busy through the winter trying to restore this peice of history. I know a few will love that box.........

    Thanks Spike

That looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down!

J/K man, looks like a fun project... Have you named it yet?

I need to visit one of the local old-timers, he owned an old-school saw shop just down the hill years ago (it's now his wife's pottery shop & they have a bluegrass GTG every Tuesday night nowadays) I bet he has a relic or two tucked away somewheres, that might be for sale.

    I'm Stihl thinkin'

That's ironic I went by a ole fellers saw shop a few weeks ago looking myself, he had a real nice 041 that was being "fixed". The dust was about 2-3 years thick but he Stihl would not sell it. There was also a rough looking 288xp that I was peeking at. My advice is to not give up, out of all the old saws that used to run there are many that just need some TLC

Cool deal, I have always read that the older saws have lotsa more torque than these new uns.

You're very welcome SS, and enjoy the project. That saw pulls over nice, so I'm sure it will run. Just needs a coil wire and fuel line and the carb looks past rebuilding. The missing side cover is on my saw. Sorry!

The one I kept doesn't look any better than that one. Plus your tank is clean and mine had a 1/2" of goop in the bottom. Mine is running good now and I made a few cuts with it over the weekend. Nice sound.

I figured that I would probably never bother doing the second one, so when SS asked about it, I told him if he covered the shipping he could have it for free since it didn't cost me anything. Just sharing that barn find. It would have been fun to have a bus load of AS guys hit that place. (I did sell two of the Homelites as parts saws to a local guy. But he's not an AS member, so he had to pay!)

I did finish up a Jonsered 49SP over the weekend. Next is either the Stihl 045 or the Mac 7-10. I figure to have 6 or 7 runners out of that load of stuff I brought home.

I need to give a big thanks to Ultra this time, he sent me another free 041. I now have a good collection of parts to get started. My first Dolmar box too.

    Thanks Ultra
