    Old Mac 160S Questions

    Hi,
I'm new to chainsaws, but I need one and I like to tinker. I bought two at a garage sale for a total of $20. The MAC 160S leaked gas, so I replaced the broken fuel line (Geeze, who designed that thing? What a pain!). Anyway, with a little hi/lo screw adjustment, it started right up, and I've been using it and it cuts well. I have two problems, though. First, the chain is engaged all the time (clutch problem?). Second, it won't idle. I have to keep revving the motor to keep it going between cuts. I've cranked the "idle" screw both in and out most of the way without that helping. Anybody know about this model?
    Thanks for any advice!

Sounds like a busted clutch spring.Take the chain off and see if you can get it to idle then.

Well, that sounds like a good diagnosis, thanks! Can't get around to trying it at the moment. Assuming it's busted, what's the best place to get a new spring?

The only number I can find on it besides "MAC 160S" is this:
    12-020491.
But I made the chain way loose (bar in all the way) and it still doesn't idle. Didn't take the chain all the way off, though.
