    A Little Bit of SILloggin'!! Enjoy

    well...its finals week...i need to be studying..but instead I'm out logging(its what i do to keep my sanity!) anyway the gf went with me to so that i wouldn't be out there by myself(really not a good idea but ive dont it several time-being by yourself that is)...well anyway..she took the camera along.

    all quiet and peaceful...birds chirping...squirells playing...yada yada yada..and then some PITA shows up with a chainsaw=your truly!

    Is that Ash?

    That looks like Ash we have here in Kansas. I think what we normally have here is White Ash and Green Ash. That reminds me of White Ash by the bark.

    this one was leaning pretty good...pulled about the last 2" of the bark off the stump on the way out

    we really don't have any naturally occuring pine species around here..atleast not that would be viable for timber.

    all of these pics are red oak..i did cut a 36"ish Ash but i didn't get any pics of it. if you get up closer to the trees you can see the difference between these an ash...but from a distance they could fool you

    Not a stump I'm proud of. this is thin soil at this patch...therefore the trees are going close to rock..in this case the trees are pulling minerals from the ground up into them=just about like cutting through sandpaper. enough of the excuses..

    this tree was leaning fairly hard one way..but i didn't want it to go there because it would have wiped out 3-4 young white oaks and been in a h*ll of a spot to get out with the skidder....so i put the ole' swing cut to it..put 4-5 notches in it(smallish ones)and did a 110-120* swing of the tree...it went right where i wanted it...but the cut wasn't as true as i usually cut (was about 1 1/2" off...which i hate-I take pride on how i cut trees)...chain was shot..put on a new one...and now its ripping!

    btw..the stump police can hammer me for this one!

    actually didn't mean to post this pic...but after i did i figured you guys might like it...this was a load of hardwood logs i cut a year or so ago..


    anyway...I can cut a flat stump i promise!!
