FYI - - Went down to visit my local Husky dealer yesterday to price a new wood splitter and noticed he had a brand new NE 346XPG on the shelf.
It had no Green gas cap and what looked like non CAT muffler! Also had a price tag of about $60 more than regular NE 346 XP. So it seems that there are some non-Etechs finding there way to the US.

Al

My 346XP NE was a non e-tech version with the non-cat muffler. I purchased mine in the last rush before Husky went dealer only online.

In the US, they usually "sneak" the e-techs into the model lineup, without telling......:censored:

Over here, we have the choice as custumers - and even have to pay extra for the e-tech ones.  :bang:

It may have been in the pipe-line for a while - did you look at the serial number?

My NE 346XP is a e-tech. I bought a non-cat muffler for it. It's my understanding that the only difference between e-tech and non e-tech saws are the mufflers. If that is the case (and if someone really knows, please chime in!) the saws should cost pretty much the same. I can't see one costing $60 more then the other, especially when the non-cat muffler costs half of that $60 price difference!

IIRC, if you were to buy mufflers separately, the non-cat muffler is cheaper then the cat muffler. If anything the non e-tech saw should be cheaper, right? Unless of course the dealer is using it as a sales ploy. I'd take the e-tech saw, spend $30 for a non-cat muffler and save myself $30. Just my $0.02, YMMV! :)

I think the reason it was $60 more is because it was an XPG with heated handles and not an XP.

No, Niko I didn't think to check the serial number . . now after seeing the XPG I'm trying to decide if I NEED a heated handle model!!! Geeze this site is tough on the old billfold!

I think I'll pass on it at this time and enjoy the one I have. BTW - I have gone to the 16" bar with chisel chain, replaced the muffler, replaced gas cap with a grey one and trimmed the limiter caps and retuned my NE346XP. All I can say is WOW!

This is a great firewood saw.

Al

Sure it is, that is the same difference as here (300 NOK). Considering US prices in general. I think it is odd that the difference is the same - but it may be related to actual production cost....

Stihl has a much higher premium on the heated saws, at least here - but it still is worth it.

346 xp ne

Happened to be at the saw shop today and dealer had one. Wow this little guy feels really nice, kinda fell in love with it. Started doing a little searching and saw this post. This one didn't have green cap either. How exactly do you tell if it is etec/cat or not???? By the way why does nobody like the color scheme???? I think this little guy might just follow me home one day.

You should be pretty safe if it has a gray gas cap and doesn't say e-tech (small letters) on the starter side label.
