    394 or 395 PARTS SAW

I've got a husky 395 that has some issues, and I am wondering if a 394 would be a good substitute for 395 parts. Crankcase and top cover would be used from the parts saw, or would a 395 be the only option?
    thanks, derek

You would be better to use the 395 crankcase,as the crankshaft bearings are bigger if you can. What's wrong with the 395 case?

The threads on the recoil side and the top cover are all stripped. I talked to the husky dealer and he said to try a heli coil set to replace the stripped threads, but two threads for the top cover were ripped out completely. I bought saw on flea bay, and they seemed to be tight, but when I ran the saw in some old dry maple everything just rattled apart (reminds me of the Blues Brothers when Jake and Elwood got to Daley Plaza and their car just fell to pieces!). I'm not sure if the heli coils will work or if I would just be better off getting a parts saw. Everything else is in good shape, the saw starts and runs fine minus the bad threads.

I bought the heli coil set and I'll give it a shot to see how it will work, but I'm still skeptical about the two that are completely ripped out. The dealer said a new crankcase would be about $100. That may be an option if the heli coils don't work, used 395 parts are a little hard to come by around here. I hope to get to it this weekend. I'll try to get some pics. Thanks for the replies.
