I am a mechanic for a small town. Most all the employees,Cops,Fire,Townhall, plus some residents ask me to look at their stuff. I have a family and personal life and make sure they know that and it may take me some time to look at. If they are in a hurry call the repair shop. Most understand and have me work on it. I am selective to some degree also,on what I work on and what I charge. It depends on person, the retired old man on fixed income nextdoor to Mom gets a good deal. Policeman making 80k pays my full price, still cheaper than shop.

If someone truely want something for nothing, they they aint no friend!! Then its easy to tell them to take a hike.

For me everybody that I do a favour for, I know they will do it in return if needed. So its an easy decision to make.

All the people I help out are truely gratefull for it. The only person I charge in my friend that runs a tree service, after all, its out of his business, and he's making money off me fixing his stuff, so it fits that he pays me some money, he is very happy with there service I provide, I'm faster then the local shop and cheaper. He's actually called me a magician with saws. Not trying to boast or anything. He's just not that good with fixin saws, it so happens I am, he's good at what he does, thats cutting with saws.

I think no matter what it is, fixing saws or computers or anythging, you just have to say no if you dont want to do it. I have a Cop at work that Ive fixed two of his mowers and the last two times he asked I said no.Hes not mad,and im sure he will ask again next time he needs help.I also feel that what comes around goes around, maybe some of that AS Optimist that Fish called me. I hope people will help me when I need it. If not I will put them on my Pay No Mind To list.

Well my Amish /Mammary bar joke was cute, but it is all in the delivery, which
is hard to do here online, it only can be achieved/acheived/latter....
with person-audience dialog/banter, it has worked for me occaisionally.

But dissecting the "joke" afterwards, is not funny at all, as about any joke.
Unless there are some "Monty Python" fans in the audience.....

Nonetheless, this is a "chainsaw" forum, and nothing about it is funny....

Nor should it be...... Chainsaws are quite serious business........

Don't forget it..........I apologize for being funny, well trying to be so.
The science/art of joke delivery should be explored on another forum,
as you guys have little humor.... But you guys complete me............

Don't forget also, Peeps, that there are people out there (dealers, small engine shops) that do this for a living. When I buy my junk from the local dealers I let them know that DON'T sell the saws or parts locally and I don't do repair work. Those fellas have to feed their families also, and they have big investments in parts, infrastructure, and sheer know-how.

I think its great to fix your own saws and maybe your pal's or pop's, but you might be creating more problems than you solve if you do backyard mechanic work for everyone. On the less delicate side, at a certain point it goes from you performing acts of kindness into you becoming a sucker. The sad fact is, many people don't have limits.... if they can get you to do it, they will. The reason you're feeling annoyed is that people are beginning to make you regret being a decent guy. I know it gets me riled up when folks turn something that genuinely came from the heart into a situation I regret.
