How Do I Set Maximum RPM?

How do you properly set the maximum RPM using a tachometer? I adjusted my H screw until the saw would rev up to 14,000 RPM withing a few seconds. However, if I held the throttle longer than about 8 seconds, the revs would slowly start to climb until the saw would reach 14,800.

So, how long should I hold the throttle?

    Saw: Solo 656, Max RPM: 14,000 + or - 200.

Find a piece of hardwood as long as your bar. Get into a full cut and adjust to just blurbing (e.g. 4-stroking). Back it off till it just doesn't (ca.1/8-1/4 turn)

    IMHO better than a tach.

    P.S. with a good chain

it's the only real way to set the carb. If you set the carb with the tach only, 9x out of 10 you're setting the carb much too rich.

+2! The only sure way that you can be sure she won't be starved for fuel and low on power is to set that that high speed throttle under load. Usually this takes two men, one carefully adjusting the carb while the other holds the saw steady while she cuts normally. That may not be true for all saws, but that has been the case with my old Mac Timber Bear and her Walbro carb.
