Will a woods ported 660/395 pull a 36" bar with full comp RC chain in Oak/Hickory with authority? How about an 8 tooth rim? Most of the vids I've seen have them sporting skip.
thanks,
Ian

Yes.
As long as the chain is sharp. A 660 will pull a 36" in hardwood with pretty good authority with just a dp and a tune-up.

I think you would be disappointed in a stock model, but I think if ported right, it will pull it with authority. You better have some huge trees that need a 36".
Now a sponsor!!! Selling used Husky and Stihl parts. Have limited parts of other brands. PM me with your needs.

Absolutely. I'm sure you've seen these before. It has a 7-pin but would likely be fine with an 8-pin.

That is the BB kit but I'm sure the OEM jug would run great as well.

My stock 395 sports a 32" bar most of the time running full comp square and an 8pin. If you don't have a ported saw around to compare to it seems just fine to me. We did a little comparison by feel against a brandy new 660 at Erics GTG and I would say the 395 was faster in the beach we were cutting. Its rated for a 42". With authority can be quite ambiguous.

I don't know about ported but my stock 066 pulls a 36" bar with semi skip on a 7 pin.
I've had it buried in 38" pin oak and if your idea of authority is Barney Fife in Mayberry, than yes it pulls with authority.
As weak as this saw is with semi skip and 7 pin. I would think you would need to muffler mod it and maybe K&N filter also. IMO
I've never had a 36" bar on my 395xp, but I think it would scream with one.
It's a whole another level or two above my 066 even when I have a 25" bar with a 8 pin on the 066.
