Nice cutting there SI . Just want to know if you got any ballastic nylon padding in those pants ,would be a good idea to sew some in if you don't. Trust me I have scars on my left knee and I did have pads in at the time ,would have been alot more damage if I had none. If your going cut yourself, 9 out of 10 it will be your left knee or left foot.
Your a big strong guy , learn to file with one hand, its quicker and more accurate ,and not so awkward. Just sit down on that stump and sit that saw on your left horizontal upper leg,hug your saw with your left arm holding the bar with your left hand and file with your right. To file the right hand cutters sit the saw on both upper legs while sitting ,bar/chain on left leg ,left hand holding bar tip area and file with right.I'll sometimes rest a wood cookie or stick under the chain so I don't knick up my pants. Good idea to file right cutters first though, if you slip the file out on the righthand cutters a razor sharp left hand cutter will be waiting for your right index knuckle. Keep the file down pressure maintained on the right cutters so that doesn't happen .[harder to do on the right hand cutters].![]()

Been there, done that.I have started wearing gloves to avoid it. Do you pull up a little towards the top of the cutter? That is how I was taught. Still learning little tricks here and there.
SIL, hopefully someone can help posting your videos. I wish I could help, but I don't know squat about posting videos.![]()

A little late replying epicklein. Yeah I got a good 30 year scar on my index finger knuckle from that file slipping out of that right hand cutter and I had a thick pair of leather gloves on at the time.Learned my lesson then and never did it again. Don't quite know what you mean about pulling up towards the top of the cutter, but filing those right hand cutters you need to coordinate the down and back pressure at the same time and not put too much hook into the sideplate. I have seen alot of lazy filing where there is no hook at all ,just backslope. Not a very effective cutting chain. Then I have seen some pro cutters file the left hand cutters the regular way but they filed the right hand cutters from the same side but filing into the cutter like you would with a square chisel bit file. I've tried that variation and the chain seems to cut fine. Just gotta keep all your angles even on both sides.
