    Carb problems I think?

I recently received a poorly cared for snowblower that is driving me nuts. I thought the carb was working fine, but 2 things are happening (now that I have it running in the snow). It doesn't have the power to throw the snow far and the engine is struggling when the auger is on and it is clearing snow. Should I have removed the welch plugs on the carb when I cleaned it the first time? It is a tecumseh carb. Also, I am looking for a forum for small engine repair (if you know of one please let me know) I am aware that this forum is for chainsaws, but thanks to everyone this forum gets the correct answers quick. Please Help. Thanks

Is it a metal carb, with a nut/screw on the bottom?
Is it a 4 cycle? Oil in crankcase?
What are the engine's model numbers?

The carb bowl is aluminum and the top is cast metal. There are no adjustments on this carb, but there is a screw that was capped on the side of the carb. I removed that screw when I cleaned it, so I put it back right where it was in the seated position (there is no spring on this screw). Craftsman 4 cycle engine model number 143.794053. Thanks Bob

Remove the bottom bowl nut/jet, and look closely at it. It has tiny holes in it, clean them thoroughly, look at the base of the threads, there might be a tiny hole there as well, clean and replace, fill with fresh fuel, and try it out. see if it improves.

I already cleaned that the main jet screw there were 3 holes in it 2 on the bottom 1 little one up top and a tube down the center connecting all the holes. Clean as could be and I could see light when shining a flashlight through it. What next?

Remove that carb and pull the bowl off and look into the column that the nut/jet threads into, there are a few orifices there that can be clogged as well. The nut is where the clog usually is. Have you got fresh fuel in it?

Sometime, running a bit with fresh fuel will clean out the varnish. Either way, fresh fuel is a must.

Yes there is fresh fuel in it. The center of this carb has a red straw with rubber gaskets on both ends I didn't see any holes going through the straw. Does anyone know if taking off the welch plugs would help. That is the one thing that I didn't do when I was cleaning the carb. I sprayed carb cleaner through the capped idle screw hole and carb cleaner came out through the small holes in the venturi.
