Husky has separate pullers for different saw groups........

Here is Husky's puller, and as far as I know it covers most current models. I am sure it will work with most others as well.

Even if I had to buy 5 separate pullers for different models it would be cheaper than the Stihl.

The question I have is ...Does it work on all the other brand saws??

I wind up using my Stihl puller on many other brands that my Husky puller dont work on...

That is why I liked the Stihl until I seen the price. I know the Partner seal puller is the same type, but I don't know if it will or not. It looks like the puller is tapered so it will fit different sizes of seals. If the seal is big, not sure how much of the puller will fit inside the case to get a good hold on it though.

That's your dealer.. not Stihl. Considering the volume you do with him... he could have sold it to you for cost or less if he wanted. There is no MSRP on that product as it's not supposed to be resold.

BTW.. not justification for any other brand.. but auto-parts have far higher markup than 45%... I was privey to internal pricing at a Carquest recently.. wow... I'd sure like to buy those at cost.

I like the look of (haven't had one in my hands) of the type that has a tapered "thread" for winding into the seal. It's been on my "make a few different sizes" list for a couple of years.. screw-on ends to one base tool. Of course, I'd spend days making it and I already have a stihl puller.. so low priority.

The Stihl appears simple enough to make in a modest shop, BUT the jaws are much tricker than they look. Lot's of jigging, fiddling and setup.

I wonder of a piece of threaded pipe would work, probably not as nice but they have a slight taper to them. It would be difficult to get the right size though.

I was hoping for a better deal, but... At least they knocked off more than my normal 13% and were willing to sell it to me. They don't even have one in their shop It did have a list price though of right around $230! I would think they'd be easy to make, except for the jaws like you mentioned. I wouldn't want to get Stihl on my trail for selling them though.

Did you see the MSRP in Stihl catalog or just on their internal system? Mine show it only at cost and sales tax is applied when it's shipped from StihlNW (assumption that we are the end user).

Size is certainly an issue, and I doubt the standard pipe taper is enough (in most cases it needs to grab pretty quickly before it hits the bearing. I just remembred why that project gets put on the back burner -I don't have a taper attachment for my lathe.. and you need that to cut threads on an arbitary taper.

Before he gave me prices, he logged into the distributors website, Bryant Equipment I think, and checked the current prices. They had list prices for all the tools I was buying: seal puller, jaws, limiter cap puller, spring installer. The last two were only $5-$10. I was surprised

Interesting.. Mine only shows the cost on that item. Strange markup on yours also - standard MSRP is 25 to 40 over cost depending on your purchasing status.

I'm wondering if it doesn't have a "scale factor" like Mediacat. I can make mediacat show any price to a customer. Oh, ours is is set to 1.0x

Could be. I hadn't seen them use that system before.

How come its so important to have a seal puller? I've never used one, call me crude but I use a small screwdriver and just pop it out, haven't had a problem yet, I know you must be careful not to scratch the crank.
