I did it once, only the clients that have money will usually do it and historical parks, etc. Basically you plot where you are going to put the 32 strand copper wire on the trunk and dominant branchs with eye hooks. Then you fish the wire through and near the tips of the crown and branches you fray the wire. At the base of the tree you trench the wire all the way out past the drip line and then go down about 6 or 8 feet. Remember though as the tree grows the lightning projection system must grow with the tree. You can use poles with special adapters, and so on.
