I am a new member here and have several saws I want to fix up. 046,066, husqvarna 246, and an old homelite. My question is about the 246 or husqvarnas' in general. what does the first number in the model designate, I notice they use 1, 2, or 3 and some probably older models just use 2 numbers like a "42" . just trying to get an idea of what I'm looking at when I run across Husqvarna saws. Thanks

3xx/5xx is the current generation, which came around 2000 i quess, 2xx's was the generation before them... while 1xx series being the rebadged poulan crap...

Thanks for your help. I know parts availability is good for the Stihl saws but I am wondering If these older Husqvarna saws go obselete quicker makeing parts availability a problem, are there any sponsors here that specialize in older Husqvarna parts? the saw is in great shape and runs well but needs chain guide plate, and chain wear bumpers. All help is greatly appreciated!

You can still get 246 parts from any Husqvarna dealer. I don't know for how long. I was talking to the Husky rep for my area and he said that engine parts should be available for quite a while. He said covers and other "outside" parts would be the first things discontinued.

I just got two NOS 246's. A 1998 G and a 1997 plain one. I am also stocking up on parts that will wear out because I plan on running these for the next 20 years.

Thanks for all the help. I will call tomorrow for the items the saw needs. I want to get this saw complete before moveing ahead with my other saw projects. Thanks to all that replied with great information!

best bar and chain Husky 246

What is the best bar and chain combo for the Husqvarna 246. Are the combos from Bailey's worth the price? Am I better of with stock Husqvarna? I know they are .325 , any other info on this saw would be helpful.

Not on the older saws. Only the new (past 10 years or so) saws are rebadged poulans.
