Hi all, first post, great site.

Did a lot of searching and haven't found my answer thus my post. I have a s25da that died on me. It has no spark I checked all the normal things and I think I have narrowed it down the the coil. My question is how can I tell if it has points in it with out pulling the flywheel? I have the owners manual and I can't see them any where on the parts break out. It lists a solid state module for the coil. Does that mean there are no points? Just want to make sure I order the right parts to fix it.

Thanks

your saw does not use points it has a solid state ignition also i did have a coil but being that poulan has them obsolete and with me being one of the obsolete poulan dealers in the nation i ran out of the coils now its possible one of the other dealers in the nation may have one or you can find a parts saw that has good spark and get it that way the S25Da was one of poulans best saws along with the 245A and the 306A and XXV i will be redoing my inventory if for some reason i run across another coil i will l;et you know

Fish could have a used one check with him but if you need new NOS poulan parts give me a try before you go elsewhere

keep in mind i have 2 complete Pistons and pin and rings for the S25DA i wish they would sell sometime this year

Thank you for your reply. I was able to find an ignition in KY. I ordered it, $40. I really like this old school saw and want to keep it running. My brother used it for many years as his climbing saw, I will keep you in mind if I need other parts. Thanks again

Yes that is what I have found out. I'm not sure how old this saw is and I didn't feel like doing more work than needed. You start reading stuff and then you start doubting what you're see in front of you. I just wanted to make sure I was seeing things correctly. I hope this new coil shows up and solves my problem. Is there any way I can date this saw? The serial number is 25455132. I like this site. I didn't know that there were people crazy about chain saws. I have found a lot of interesting things here.
Thanks for all the help.

No, it was a website called mymowerparts. The guys are Pat or Charlie. In Ky some where. I don't remember at the moment.

Hopefully I won't need a piston anytime soon. I have your site bookmarked for future use.

thanks now when i file bankruptcy my url will be changing over i have not decided yet what my new trade name will be but i will be updating everyone on it when the time comes i estimate it may be between 3-5 months from now

but right now i want to move as much inventory as possible

thats why briggs parts are on sale tecumseh is on sell all in the specials catalog on my site

Anyone have a line on points for this saw? Turns out it has points and the arm is cracked on the part that contacts the crankshaft. Everything shows me there is no points but this baby has points.

Thanks Calvin, I called the guy that sent me the solid state coil and he said I don't need points after I put this coil in. He said I shouldn't hook up the wire from the points and it'll work fine. I hope he is right. I'll let you know when the new coil shows up. If not I'll be looking for points.
Funny part is one of my buddies came over with a saw he found because he thought it was like mine. It's a Allis Chalmers model 75. It's the same saw I have and it runs good, just needs a chain. I bought it for $25. I figured it was worth it for parts or as a back up. I couldn't believe it was the same saw found with in 2 miles of my house!

You might not want to part out the Allis 75. There worth a little bit of $ to the person collecting "tractor" saws.

Anytime I have seen an Allis on Ebay they always bring in some dough. And your right they are made by Poulan....

wow good saws

I had one myself got a pretty penny for it bout 5 years ago my only compaint was I had the gear reduction in mine it would eat wood allright but rather slow then I replaced it with a homelite mighty might with a 12 in bar dang thing cut good but it was so loud you would think it was a husky and more recently I bought a recond homelite from the cummins tool truckload sale 33 cc 18 bar I really like it been using it for about 5 months now I only bring out the husky for speacial occasions :yourock:

Ok this saw has me stumped now. It was running great and then it lost power and misses when cutting. It idles fine but won't rev. Tried a new plug, pulled and cleaned the carb, pulled the exhaust and the cylinder & piston look fine. I also tried adjusting the high speed circut. Gas seems to splash out of the carb when I hold it WFO. Don't know where to go from here. Anyone have any ideas? I really want to keep this saw running if I can.
Thanks for any input.

How did the new coil work out ??

You cant mount a solid state coil to a saw that had points in it.

The mounting pattern on the cylinder for the coils are different for the points ignition vs the solid state.

Do you know that part # for the solid state coil ?? I am looking for one myself.

As for this problem: Have you put a carb kit in it ??

ive got a few ideas

to me it sounds like its loosing vacume when under load first replace the O ring between the carb and head and if there is a section or adapter between those replce it to also look for cracks . if this fails pull the flywheel and look at the key very un likly its gotten sheared but I have seen it happen if its shifted or broken then replace it it could be just enough off time its not advancing and will run kinda hit n miss at an idle.

No carb kit, not even sure if I could get one. Wanted to ask before throwing a bunch of parts at it. I will look for one and check the flywheel. I'll check the seal on the bottom of the carb too. Compression seems low but it reads the same as this Allis Chalmers 75 I have and that runs great so I'm thinking it must be somthing else. The AC 75 is the same saw. Anyone have a line on a carb kit?
