I had a brand new 18" bar for my 026 that I purchased years ago and thought I would put it on. Instead of going to my Stihl dealer I just got one from Lowes. It's an oregon low kick chain. What a joke. It won't cut shi:censored:. Guess I'll go to my dealer and get a real chain. I've used Oregon chain before and never had problems. My Echo has an Oregon on it though it's a different style, cuts very well. It'll out cut my Stihl with that POS chain. Anyone ever experience this. Looking at the chain closely it looks like the guide is as high as the cutter or almost. Maybe .010.

You need to be more spesific regarding the exact model of chain - there are Stihl chain that suck as well....

Also check if the rakers are too high - it happens.

Oregon 35SL is the worse crap that oregon makes try 22LPX chisel or 22VB semi chisel you will be very happy. IMO The .325 safety stihl is just as bad as the 30 series safety from oregon. Oregon would have a hit if they would make a 20 series Vanguard safety atleast it would cut and pass ANSI standards

I found my depth guage and compared it with Stihl chain. Both appear to be at .025. Upon further inspection (with a magnifying glass) it looks like the cutters are not ground deep enough. Should the file just touch the bottom of gullet when filing? If so I think that is the problem.

+1 I have used 33sl and it could not cut it's way out of a wet paper bag!
Nothing wrong with Oregon chain You just have to have the right one.
I did grind the shark fins of the 33 sl and found the OD ball size file for it, But I have not tried it since it has hit the grinder. I am sticking with my Woodsman pro 28 rc for now

The 30-series Oregons are "low-profile" .325 chain, and the file should be smaller than on most other .325 chain (5/32" vs 3/16" if memory serves).

The real problem with the SL is the "safety" bumpers on the tie straps, the LG is OK (but still not among the best out there).

I thought the SL had the bumpers on the tie straps, not the drive links... I thought putting the safety bumper on the drive link was usually not too bad in cutting efficiency..? Am I out to lunch here?

They have, and that actually is part of the problem - my thoughts went astray when I posted....
