Just another thread to state that we are now less than 10 months away from 2010. The new 2010 EPA laws are fast approaching. That means that a LOT of saws out there today are not going to be available in the USA after the end of this year (if not sooner). Yes, THIS YEAR! This includes all the existing line of Stihl saws, except the MS441, and the newly released 171, 181, and 211 (which are not out here yet).

So for those that are not aware, maybe now is a good time to pick up that Stihl 460, 660, 180 (181 is heavier), 361, 260, 880, or other saw that you have been oogling over on the shelf. Note also that several Huskies like the 372xp are also on the death list. As for Dolmar, there are no real Dolmar shops anywhere around here so I do not know what is going to remain or be tossed in their lineup. I presume that the new PS-350 and 420 are in the new line, and the 401 will be toast.

And for those non-believers, yes, this is really going to happen. This is not a hoax or a spoof. The 2010 EPA laws have been on the books for a long time now, and they (the EPA) is not going to go lax on these like they did in the last rounds. It also affects all hand held power tools, and not just chainsaws. That includes cut-off saws, trimmers, blowers and the like. So get 'em now or cry later.

Then again, maybe you want the newer, heavier, hard to modify stratified air-injected two stroke eninges? In that case, your day is about to come!

Best stock up on the big buggers, they'll appreciate well enough that you can sell them in two years and ride the gravy train as far as it goes ;)

So now your saying I have to buy my 660 before next yr. I better get it and enjoy before we all die in 2012 anyway lol.

I heard that 4 stroke chainsaws are next , no crankcase and use's mixed gas !!!!!! Any word on them ??

I got a long way to go to catch up to some of you, but Im stocking up! (see signature) I was gonna get all these running and sell enough of them to fund a MS660, but Im thinking on keeping them with the EPA Doomsday BULL#### approaching.

KNOCK IT OFF!!!! I have been watching the hour glass for years...not just chainsaws but sleds etc...

I have about 3K worth of stuff to buy before the snow flies this fall....going to be working 2 other jobs on the side just to buy them!

Yah, most companies have designs and prototype 4-mix engines. As you say, no sump and pre-mix gas like 2-strokes. Only way to have a saw or other hand tools that can rotate and run at any angle. Theya re heavy though. Stihl can also add cats to their 2-strokes, which until now are not in the plans (but they are in my IPLs). Dolmar is already adding cats to their new saws.

Heard from a Husky dealer a few weeks ago that the 346xp/NE was "fuel injected." I said it was probably more likely strato-air injected. He said no, its fuel injected. I said, Oooooh Kaaaay... and walked out of the showroom shaking my head. Another instance where the customers know more than the sales guys. Fuel injection in a 2-stroke would be interesting, but I cannot imagine the price tag.

Not from Stihl or Husky... They will go Stratoocharge.

Lakeside, can you please describe what a 4-mix saw is then? Isn't a Stihl 4-mix a fourstroke motor running on 2cycle premix?

My pole trimmer is a Stihl 4mix. It has overhead valves and a camshaft. I could see 4mix saws showing up soon....or maybe not? You guys tell me. (scratching head)

So, will these new saws have 2 spark plugs and 2 fuel supplys?

Nooooooooo....

They will typically have 2 more fresh air injector ports though. Depends on the design.

Here is a long winded California/CARB Clean Air+John Deere/Homelite story for you, that has some 4-mix info and some differences between strato scavanged and compression wave design engines. Note also that John Deere not only shot itself in the foot when pushing the clean issue though California/CARB, but they shot their entire leg off in the process. They sold off Homelite, and sell Stihl and Honda and other hand held tools now. Mainly in response to CARB and EPA issues.

The 2010 EPA standards will probably have the biggest impact on chainsaws in the US and the world that we have seen in a while, and for some time to come.

Yea, that was a lot of reading there, i think your right though, anyone thinking about buying saws better get on it soon! before these dogs hit the market.

Well, life will be good if I die with a 361 in my hands. I have Viking ancestry, and I will go to Sawhalla! :greenchainsaw:

Too funny windthrown-- I've heard rumors that in Sawhalla the chainsaws are powered by miniature nuclear reactors. No rpm limitations. :greenchainsaw:
