With the new 440 in the stable, I'm already thinking mods :dizzy:. How much does the DP cover help. Is it just a bolt off : bolt on deal or is there mods to the rest of the muffler? Also does this lean the machine or make it richer? Should I break the saw in first before going with the DP cover? The manual says not to go WOT out of cut for the first few tanks anyway. So, don't think I want to tune before that anyway. WDO

The DP covers make all the difference in the world, and yes, they just bolt right on. I ran the 460 for awhile with out one for awhile , then couldn't believe the difference once I put it on. My 440 and 660 both had their dual port covers installed before the first drop of gas hit the tank. Some may say break it in first before installing, but think of it this way: Prior to EPA and OSHA mandates, ALL SAWS were made with relatively open exhausts, and they did just fine. It does require a carb adjustment once installed, however. This may seem hard on the saw, being brand new and all, but that's how the factory does it.

Use it for a few tanks and then put the duel port on. Makes your smile a lot bigger.

If I put the DP on will it void the warrenty? I mean I'll have to remove the limiter caps...right?

Technically, it would be a violation of warranty, as it is a modification to the stock exhaust system. I think it would be up to the individual dealer if he wanted to make issue of it. I think a reasonable dealer would provide warranty service for most issues anyway. Though I wouldn't expect him to cover a scorched cylinder that is the result of poor/lean tuning. So before you try it (with or without concern for the warranty) pull the limiter caps and learn to tune it. I find myself re-tuning depending on the weather anyway. But then again, I like them to be PERFECT.

Its a factory Stihl part... It won't void the warranty... If it did... their would be a lot of saws in the PNW not under warranty...

Now if you do some booger welded exhaust mod to your stock cover... (like a wojo mod)... then you will void the warranty...

OK, It wouldn't affect the warrenty just bolting on the cover. How would removing the limiters on the carb to tune affect the warrenty? I called a dealer today (the largest one around here) he's never sold that part # :dizzy: WDO

Sounds like your dealer would be none the wiser anyways... When you pull the caps to retune... you need to put them back on. They keep the screw from turnin from vibes.

Unless I'm overlookin' somethin'... by installing a FACTORY dual-port muffler cover, and retuning the carb. You have not "modified" the saw at all... in the factory's eyes... The factory dual port cover is made for professional cutters and fallers to get a little more power out of a lightweight powerhead... that's all...
